Do you use the blue foam by itself or with a straw or ??? I've been having problems with it working consistantly and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Tried it alone, with a stirrer straw and made a dart.

I do not use a straw. I just cut a rectangular piece to fit inside the cart (using 901). I drip juice into it till it's about a nickel's edge away from the top then take tweezers, squeeze the sides of the filler and slowly push it down in there. I then push it down from the top till I see the foam get wet and pull it back up to the edge. If it is not "slushy" I might add another drop or two to make it wet, but never pool it.

That's for refilling. I can go days with just topping off the filler with 5-7 drops or so. That stuff just keeps going and going... I'll never run out of it, the package comes with so much of the stuff!

It's the Marineland Rite Size U stuff. Works a charm.

I use it by itself... I do the plug method with my 901. Cut the filler to the length and width of the cart and pull it out. Then fill the cart (mine takes 12 drops), fold the filler in half and stick it in the top.

Works great!

Folded end towards the opening or towards the mouth end?

On my 901 it doesn't seem to make a difference. I think it is more on the thickness on the plug that provides good wicking. Just out of habit I point the folded end toward the mouthpiece.

On my 510 because it has a lip in the cart I think the folded end pointing toward the atomizer does a little better at holding in place but I still get good results regardless.

If your juice is all vg then I would think you need to trim a little off the side of the original filler. It is thicker and you don't need as much filler. You can get fluval from the pet store. I picked some up with one of my Nic orders for a buck or so. If you have extra carts, then take the filler out and trim off a little from the length side so it is not as thick. Your juice just needs a little more room. You should be able to get another 5 drops or so in. Let it sit for a minute and check to see if it has settled, if so you can probably work another drop or two in with the bobbypin method. Good Luck.
This worked great for a while now its just not wicking right /sigh
I washed the fillers and patted them dry in paper towels, left to dry a few hours, then fluffed them up trimmed the side off, and stuffed it back in.
I sort of hold it to one side with a pointy toothpick and drip into it until it looks a bit 'mooshy', tho' not pooling, but its really not vaping that well. I get heaps of vapor, but not much taste. Direct dripping seems ok - I don't think the atty if fried because of the vapor.
Maybe the filling is just..knackered lol
Looks like I'll have to find a petsmart of something and try and get the blue foam or fluval filler (I tried the zfm, the one with that involved cutting up a cart top but damn, I sucked at getting the size right so bad it wasn't funny  )

The 510's are weird. I was having unpredictable results with it until I figured out that the carts (on their own) aren't quite long enough to make good contact with the atty. That, and I found white foam to be burn prone and inconsistent. You never know what you're getting with it. So, when I ran out of batting, I picked up a spool of hemp box twine, and said flack it. The sweet spot is six strands of light hemp box twine, cut 1/8th of an inch above the top of the cart... at least for me. It's the smoothest, cleanest tasting filling I've tried yet. Holds between 12 and 15 drops of Chinese Poly Juice, and 9 drops of VG.

That's the first I've heard of using hemp but it makes sense. It should be safe enough as long as nothing was added during manufacturing.

OMG! I never realized there was so much to this. All I want to do is quit smoking! Sounds like rocket science to me!
Now I'm getting all nervous thinking about whether I'll be able to do this.
lol there isn't really that much to it - but we like to play with our new toys to get the most out of them. A good filler tho can really improve juice taste so there's a TON of ideas on the forum floating around.
I'm going to try the BFM myself I think - I like direct drip but its a real faff; I'd prefer a better cart filler.
Oh and I heard of hemp before but it was hemp teabags :)

It's OK egg, we were all like that at first, too. Just get yourself a 2 piece for starters, like the Vapor King from Vapor4Life and get used to vaping vs. smoking. Once you get hooked, you'll be like the rest of us mad scientists. Trust me on this. Don't let it overwhelm you when you first start. You can do it!

:)

Perhaps you may have stifled the cart wicks ability to soak up more juice by the constant heating of the element-- I've done that on a number of occasions. what I notice about the fill material is that it looks good & saturated but if I plop it down on some paper towel it doesn't transfer any liquid to it or only very little, as opposed to what fresh wick filling would do--which is saturate the towel quickly. Hope this was useful. BTW the blue stuff (fluval) is a champ.
