Do not underestimate the tobacco companies. They are trying every way they can ...

Everyone wants to protect their own product. I am well aware that this isn't safe. But it is safer then smoken an analog. Do I actually care ? I never planned on quitting smoking, then I saw this electronic cigarette ... I started reading ... Bought a 510-t kit and After 5 days I tried an analog, never looked back ... A couple of days and I quit smoking a year ago. They feel that this product is going to take alot of money away from analogs and they are afraid, as they should be ... Not everyone is going to make own juice or rebuild stuff. But it is possible, so they know they won't be able to ban it, but reduce the people trying it out certainly helps their cause

I realize that it seems logical to blame tobacco companies for the organized opposition to e-cigarettes. After all, you've stopped buying their products and begun buying the electronic type.

But we have met the enemy, and they are not the tobacco companies.

They include:

World Health Organization
European Union
U.S. Food and Drug Administration
U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention
American Cancer Society
American Lung Association
American Heart Association
Campaign for Tobacco-free Kids
Americans for non-Smokers' Rights
Action on Smoking and Health (U.S.)
American Medical Association
American Legacy Foundation

The money behind these groups includes the pharmaceutical companies that make smoking-cessation medications (Pfizer, GlaxoSmithKline, Johnson and Johnson). It is also highly likely that pharma companies that make the drugs to treat smoking-related diseases (cancer, cardiovascular, and lung) do NOT want to have a product succeed that will once and for all end people's addiction to smoking. That will ruin their income stream.

It is also why they smear smokeless tobacco products such as snus (for which there is a wealth of published scientific studies showing that the health risks are minimal) and the newer dissolvables (which are comparable to FDA approved nicotine lozenges).

The tobacco companies have not said a single word against e-cigarettes. In fact, Lorillard bought out Blu Ecigs, and other tobacco companies are discussing bringing out their own versions of e-cigarettes. The tobacco companies believe in the old adage, "If you can't beat them, join them."

When I say, "We have met the enemy," I mean that literally. Since 2009, we have been fighting the propaganda tactics and outright lies promoted by the above-mentioned lists of enemies. We have testified at council meetings, state level legislative meetings, at the FDA, etc. We have commented on news stories and policy statements. The opposition speakers have all been affiliated in some way with the organizations listed above.

Tue pharma industry might even be worse, I have worked for a year or 3-4 in healthcare/pharma software and have seen alot. But with enough of money anything can be done... I am not against some sort of regulation or something. Like this is allowed, this isn't. But a ban would be ridiculous and is impossible. Since you can buy all ingredients and can make things yourself if you want and are a bit handy. Offcourse spreading "wrong" info about it certainly helps their cause. I know alot of people who said to me, hey but this is dangerous what you are doing and all want to know whats in it ... While with an analog nobody cares what is in it ... Anyway I am smokefree in 2 days for a year now, never will look back. This vaping made me change alot of things and made me healthier, i even lost weight, I feel healthier, I don't feel so tired anymore

I like the idea from France, like you can sell it under these cicrumstances 11mg and below you can sell, 12mg and up if pharmawise. I could live with that actually. Some products are forbidden to be used in liquids, the rest can be used. It's clear what can and what can not

Thanks for the link to that article, DirtyPaws! After reading it, I put my 2 cents in at the comment section. That sorta junk research bothers me no end.

I can't help but wonder if Big Pharma has a more nefarious scheme in mind -- that they know full well what the germicidal benefits of vaporized propylene glycol are! Imagine how many billions of dollars would be taken from the pharma industry if airborne pathogens causing sinus and respiratory infections could be reduced in a large percentage of the population...
