Hello all. My name is Poppie and I'm brand new to the forum. I'm also new to vaping, as well.

A year ago, for my birthday, my dad bought for me an njoy kit. I messed around with it a little bit, but never really used it on a regular basis.
About two weeks ago I decided that I needed to quit smoking real cigarettes so I dug out the Njoy unit, charged it up and started using it on a daily basis.

My pre-filled cartridges are a year old, but I'm using them anyway. I haven't really craved a real cigarette since I started using the E cig. In that way I have been very happy. However, I don't like the taste at all (could be because the liquid is old?) and I don't always get a good amount of vapor from my draw. It's very hit-or-miss in the regard.

I don't know anything about any other E cigs, and I don't know all the lingo yet either. I have tried reading some reviews, but sometimes it's confusing and too much information.
Is Njoy just a cheap product...should I think about investing in a better unit? Are the cartridges that are flavored allowed in the U.S., because I'm having a hard time finding them?

I'm looking forward to looking around the forum and learning as much as I can about E cigs.

Welcome to ECF Poppie! You're doing the right thing by reading as much as you can about this. Yes, it seems very confusing I know. It may help you to ask yourself what type of smoker you are and what you "like" about it. Sometimes that can give you an idea of what might fit your needs. Many like the smoke and throat hit. Some seem to enjoy the act of smoking like myself.

Just keep in mind that vaping is not smoking. Most find that if they look at it as an alternative to smoking they have much better luck with it. Vaping can replace smoking ask almost any member here. Good luck to you Poppie!

Thank you for the replies.

Yes, I think what I like most about smoking (I've done it for almost 25 years) is the actual physical act of smoking. I like having something in my hand and I have the typical oral fixation going on as well. I don't care so much about feeling the smoke in my throat.
I smoked a pack a day and for the past few years I smoked Camel No. 9 Pinks. The Camel No. 9 didn't classify itself as light, ultra-light, full strength, etc. At least not on the package. I never bothered to see what the nicotine level was of those cigarettes, so I don't know if I'm getting more, less or the same nicotine now with my E cig. I can look that up though, I'm sure.
I'm starting to notice that there are a lot of cigs out there that are geared towards the more "blingy" crowd. I won't lie, as a girl I'm interested in finding a cute battery set up...but I don't want to compromise quality either.

I'm also interested in finding out how much money this will really save me, if any. I already know what I don't have to buy anymore since I gave up real cigarettes...but I don't yet know how much I will end up spending in a year on cartridges, the actual heating units, batteries, etc....for the E cig. I'm worried that it will be more expensive in the long run. I hope not.

I can already tell that I'm having success swapping out an E cig for the real thing. I can see this being a new hobby of mine, as soon as I educate myself a little more. I'm excited at the prospect of giving up cigarettes forever and sticking with the E cigs.

Poppie, welcome to ECF and to vaping. Congratulations you have made the first step! I started with an expensive rebrander called South Beach Smoke(too much money, not very good but worked!) As you are a girl I might suggest going to Smokelessimage.com and taking a look there. I use My Volt on a regular basis along with my E-Power mod. The Volt is available in different colors and is a very good unit and not that expensive. Their cartomizers are easily refilled and are very good also. I have several friends that are ECF veterans and they swear by their Volts also. Bottom line is you need to find what works for you and go with that, doesn't matter if it is the Volt or an Ego or Box mod as long as it works for you! There are so many different nicquid flavors out there to try also.
Just come back and ask questions when you have them people here are very willing to help anytime they can!

It's probably time to get new cartridges. The juice only lasts for so long. If you want to upgrade to something that similar but has a few more features I would recommend a vapeshot starter kit. It comes with a charge pack and a few cartomizers (interchangeable with your njoy batteries) and several ways to charge the batteries. It's a pretty good and easy to use setup for someone just switching.

Other considerations: will you be refilling your cartomizers eventually? If so look into getting a bottle of juice as well.
Do you want something larger than a standard cigarette? If so there are many options that have bigger batteries.

If your goal is to save some $ you can save alot with e-cigs. The most cost effective kits use larger batteries though. If you stay with cig sized batteries you can save by refilling the cartomizers with juice. This cuts the cost waaaaay down (like paying 50 cents a pack for cigarettes basically).

Many of us here spend alot on ecig stuff because it's more a hobby than a money saver haha. It's up to you which route you feel like taking.

Hey Poppie! Looks like we both decided to quit at the same time. I bought a Joye 510 kit and a EGOT USB pass through (I work from home in front of my computer all day, so wanted something without batteries). I haven't bought a pack of cigs in only 5 days and my kit has already paid for itself. Next couple days will pay for the pass through, and by the end of the month I'll have paid for all the "mix it yourself" gear, and based on my consumption so far, all the junk I bought to make my own will last me almost to the end of the next month! I kind of overdid it.

Taste wise, are you into taking up a fun little hobby? Try mixing your own! Of course, I love cooking and any kind of DIY project, so your mileage may vary. But I have some flavors I concocted and love it. Ginger lemon tea and orange spice tea (just like grandma used to make!) are my favorites.

Good luck!

Yes, I'm starting to wonder if this will become a hobby (which equals more expensive). But that's alright, if I end up enjoying it that much then so be it. I could use a new hobby.

@Woody55: Thanks for the link. Very helpful! :)

@Retriever: I don't know what I want yet, I just today began searching the Web and learning about the many options there are out there for an E cig. I had no idea that the Njoy style that I have wasn't the first E cig out there. LOL I never saw the early versions when they came out, such as the pen versions. I suppose that one of the things that I don't like is the lack of vapor from my unit. So yes, I would like my cig to produce more vapor. I am under the impression that the larger batteries do that, is that correct?
If so that is a bummer, because aesthetically I enjoy the cigarette-sized batteries the most. So I have to decide what is more important to me. I have a feeling that I'm going to spend a lot of money in the pursuit for the best E cig! :)

I'm starting to get the feeling that E cigs are almost like computers. You don't purchase mass-produced store models. You learn about the best components and put one together yourself.

I like the idea of getting my own juice, it sounds like the more frugal way to go. I guess I would have to buy a reusable cartridge (filter)...whatever. LOL I'm assuming that you can't refill the cartridges that come with the Njoy?

Thanks again for the help and replies, everyone!

EDIT:

Hi KenFu! I never thought of that...you can "Jellybelly" your juices and make new flavors. That would be fun!

Good luck to you as well. Thanks for the reply.

Welcome to ECF, Poppie - that's a very good analogy you came up with there and is exactly what happens for many of the folk who get seriously into vaping. In the world of PV's, one buys the base system (a battery holder with electronics, normally) that has an industry-wide thread (usually the 510) and fits one's preferred tank, cartomizer or atomizer to it, which is then loaded with a preferred juice. Instant, customizable happiness! ;)

After hours of searching the Web yesterday, I do think that I will take the advice to get a KGO battery kit.
My only concern is finding cartos (look at me using the lingo :)) that fit and that I like. I'm not sure that I want to get the juice and do the refills myself quite yet. Also, I'd like a more portable system than carrying around cig juice.

I was almost enticed into get a Blu cig kit. I REALLY like that carrying case that's a charger as well. But I have a feeling that I'd be paying $100 for the same setup that I currently have with the Njoy. So I won't fall for it...but it's tempting.

Thanks for the replies, suggestions and comments. I appreciate it greatly. :)

May the force be with you. :p

Well, the Kgo is a good idea Poppie but don't be afraid to fill your own cartos - which you can do easily by dripping the liquid from the bottle straight into them - as it will give you the widest range of flavors and strengths at significantly lower cost. Also, by varying the resistance of the carto you use you can control how hot/strong the vape is to a fairly large degree.

I'm looking at the Hoosier site, and if I am understanding this correctly the carto tanks actually hold a bunch of liquid and you use a drip tip attached to the tank...yes? That way, you can keep a bunch of liquid in your device rather than having to refill the carto all of the time...? Is that correct? I can see using a setup like that at home and keeping my smaller kit for going out and about.

Do any of you have multiple kits for different situations?

How many setups have you gone through before you found the one that you really like?

@Eddie: I can see the cost is significantly lower with the juice. That is a draw. I'm afraid that because I don't know what I'm doing that I will drown my atomizer or accidentally cause juice to go into my battery. LOL I tend to be clumsy. But I'm sure that the cost will drive me in that direction eventually.

There is an extensively larger range of flavors with the juice, you're right.

Does the vapor from flavored juice have a scent in the air when you vape? The regular flavorless cartridges that I have now have almost no scent whatsoever.

Quick question...
Where the heck can I get the KGO batteries? I was ready to order them from the Hoosier site and it says that they are not available. I Googled KGO batteries and found nothing in the way of ordering information. Are they sometimes available at stores?
Hopefully there is just a Web site that I'm missing or something.

Well....since joining this forum I have learned a lot about vaping. About a week after I joined I decided to get a starter kit from Smokeless Image. I have been very happy with it. In the meantime, I have been reading and watching vids about vaping and learning all that I can. I am officially obsessed with vaping now. LOL
I would definitely label vaping as my new hobby. I have learned a lot about the different types of set-ups, the different types of attys, mods, etc...
I now feel that I am ready to venture out into the wonderful world of variable voltage mods! LOL
I have a few in mind that I would consider purchasing...one being the Pearl from Vaprlife. I like many of the features of this mod.
I'm also excited about the prospect of making some DIY juice...as soon as I get the cash for the supplies.

Thanks everyone for your input and suggestions. I have been learning, and continue to learn, a lot from this forum.

Cheers!!
