Hi,
I am having a problem that is baffling me. I am getting a horrible burnt taste no matter what I do. Old battery, refilled cartomiser. New battery, refilled cart. New battery, new cart. It makes no difference. Is it me or is it something I am doing wrong? This has been going on for the last few days and is really putting me off ecigs even though I have been vaping for 12 weeks. Another few more days of this and I'll be back on the tobacco. HELP!

Yea sure sounds like after 12 weeks your taste buds are recovering. Maybe now is a good time to ditch the more expensive over the counter stuff, and invest in some decent quality kit and try out some new flavours.

I can totally understand how you feel, my taste buds will be shot to bits currently, and everything that isn't a cigarette just tastes plastic. I've got a long way to get where you are, but fully expecting some experimentation with interesting flavours to come :)

Stick with it, at 12 weeks you should be proud!

Hi,
Right, from what you are all saying it is my taste buds that are playing up. Is this going to be with me for ever or does it get better?
It doesn't seem quite so bad today as long as I use my DIY juices. (glycerine and food flavouring, lemon, peppermint and vanilla. All with no nicotine.) Is it the nicotine that makes it taste so bad?
I've still got a lot to learn.

Well i've never successfully given up before so I can't say with any certainty how long it takes to get your taste back, but I would have thought at 12 weeks without a cigarette (assuming you haven't been vaping and smoking) your taste would start coming back.

Maybe it is the nicotine you are starting to taste now, as it doesn't do it with 0mg flavours. You didn't say what strength nic your other flavours are, so maybe a lower mg might do the trick if you still need the nic hit.

I'm sure others here will have more experience what to expect after 12 weeks, but it does sound like it's the nicotine you no longer like the taste of....and thats a good thing! :) As I said before, you've done well to this point so persevere and try new things before even considering going back on the coffin nails :)

Hi,
I started off with 1.8mg, cartomisers and juice, menthol flavour. The second lot of juice I bought I cut it 50/50 with glycerine and a few drops of peppermint flavouring.
The last lot I divided into 3 and topped up with twice as much glycerine and peppermint so the nic content is now 0.6mg.
I also made up several batches with different flavours and no nicotine at all.

I think I still need the odd dose of nicotine but my aim is to cut it out over time and then cut back on the vaping. I'm 62 and have been smoking an ounce of baccy a day for about 45yrs so to cut down to this level of nic in 3 months is really surprising, especially when all I wanted to do was cut down not stop alltogether.

Phil if you are mixing your own juices, do be careful not to use any oil based flavourings. You can find some excellent info about finding the right ingredients in the UK, plus some recipes here -

Hi Chrissie,
The flavourings I am using were all bought in Sainsburys and contain Ethanol, Water and flavouring.
I assume that these are OK.

Just out of curiosity what would happen if I used an oil based flavouring?

Hi Phil. Sounds ike you've got a case of "Vapers tongue!" and it is quite common. The best way to get through it is to vape some menthol stuff for a while and get the taste buds working again. Some people, including me, seem to get it fairly often so don't panic too much. 'orrible innit!

Supermarket flavourings are fine as long as they don't contain oils or Diacetyl. Though
they tend to be weaker than the more concentrated flavourings sold through ecig Vendors.

There's a nasty condition called PopCorn Lung which you can contract from sustained inhalation
of Diacetyl . . . .

Essential oils in flavourings, will not only clog up your wicks/coils . . . they'll do the same
to your lungs as well with sustained use.
