I like lots of music, all types. "But" (there it is, the big but) I'm amazed by this song by the Righeous Brothers..."Unchained Melody". So far ahead of their time...yet such perfect timing, then. As a mid 30's guy with lots of kids...I'm still absolutely hypnotized and moved by this song and video so I thought I'd share. Just sit back, grab a freshly charged battery, a favorite bottle of juice...and just SLOW DOWN from your every day and relax for a couple minutes - please? Enjoy a Friday night for the first time in a long time, like we all did when we were invinceable teens! We'll all go back to stressville in the morning. Grab this moment...just because...well...it's Friday night?

IIRC that song was considered to be just a bit too "suggestive" when it first came out. Some radio stations wouldn't play it. Back in the days before FM radio.

To me it is beautiful and timeless.

In 1955 the song had several Top 5 versions on a half dozen charts (doesn't happen without airplay). Ten years later, the Righteous Brothers version did it again (and many, many more versions since 1955). There may have been some tiny backwoods stations that found something objectionable in the lyrics, but not mainstream radio! Here are the lyrics ... what's objectionable, even in 1955?

It is a lovely song, and one I have always liked, but watching these old videos always makes me sad. Just look, the man is smartly dressed - his pants are pulled up rather than hanging beneath his rear end, the girls are tastefully dressed - not hopping up and down practically in the nude. Why can't things be more like this today? It seems Hollywood has lost all class.
