Tried something different today and came out with great results.

The juice I've been making has been having a really harsh TH. I thought it was the NIC since I was using 24mg trying to get to 18mg. I bought 36mg and had the same results. Harsh TH.

Today, made a juice (Vanilla Caramel from Dan's calulator) that was 60/40 PG/VG and 10% flavoring. The TH was nice and smooth. The flavor was good (nice taste of caramel and bavarian cream). Now I will let it sit for a while and see what happens.

Also made a Peanut Butter Cup from Locutus666 that was 70/30 PG/VG at 20% flavor. The TH was still harsh. The taste was ok. I'm letting it sit also.

So I figure, it was either too much flavor that was causing the harsh TH or too much PG. Can't imagine it was the PG since all juices that I enjoy from vendors are 70/30 PG/VG. My next 3 batches of whatever will be made at 70/30 PG/VG 10%, then 2 batches at 60/40 PG/VG 10% and 20%. This will help me narrow down exactly what the problem is.

I think most people are buying 60 or 100 mg/ml of nic. You just can't really work with those lower numbers. They force you into using too much PG. You have no wiggle room, unless you really want a very low nic percentage in your juice or you don't want any VG. Perhaps the prices enticed you to buy the smaller numbers? Up front it may seem like you're saving money, but you'll use more of the product in the long run.

Judy, I don't have MS Office. I'm using Open Office and it's compatible, plus it's free!

OO for the win. At one time in my life, I would have just pirated the MS Office. Then one day, I decided that I would give Linux a try. It opened up the world of Open Office to me, and I never looked back. It's a pretty solid software suite, and the Windows version is better than ever now.

You are absolutely right that there is very little wiggle room. Price isn't a factor for me. Safety is. I thought about buying 100mg, but figured, it'd be safer to use a lower mg. One site I found has an option to get 50/50 PG/VG NIC, so that would probably be a better idea than to raise the amount of NIC. I think as long as I can keep the percentage of flavoring to a minimum, then I can get away with the lower NIC and high PG/VG ratio.

You should buy 60 then. I've got very little concern for saftey, and I've never had an issue with my nic. Does it come in the bottle like mine did? It has a flip up spout on the cap. I've never spilled a single drop, or got any on my skin. What I'm saying here, is that it's not that difficult to be careful with it. I'm not even sure that 60mg/ml is too much of a concern unless you pour a lot of it on yourself. Just find a routine that you're comfortable with, and you wont have to worry.

My 100 mg. is working great for me too. I was a little nervous at first but now it just comes natural to pull on my gloves and mix a batch of liquid. I have had no spills, not even stray drops from the nic. The PG and VG? Yeah, I get a little sloppy with it sometimes. I like the fact that it takes such a small amount when you use 100 mg than it would to use twice or three times as much of the smaller nic levels. I've got plenty of nic in the freezer to keep me going for a long time.

Lynda, you bring up a great point. So great, that you've actually persuaded me to buy 100 next time. The less of the nic base you have to use, the less chance of an accident. With my 75/25 PG mix, a 30 ml batch will use 12 ml of nic base. With 100, I'll only use 7.2. Not quite, but almost half as much. Yeah, the 7.2 is just as strong as the 12, but dealing with a smaller amount is easier.

If you're really worried about it, then find a way to secure the bottle. Pop the top off, and suck a few ml's out with a syringe. It's really not that scary. But if it scares you to the point of stress, stick with 60. You'll thank yourself in the end after having to deal with the weaker bases. It opens up your options for change as you see fit.

Also, it doesn't pertain to your issue, but I thought I'd mention the rule of thumb. If you like to have a higher percentage of PG, then go with the PG base. With a higher percentage of VG, then use the VG base. 50/50 doesn't work so well. I just used the calculator (accounting for 10% flavor), and with 50/50 PG needs to be as much as 30% and VG needs to be as much as 20% for the numbers to come out. I imagine that you know what you like your mix to be. If you like mostly PG in your juice, then chances that you go mostly VG one day will be slim to never.
