I made my voice heard via my wallet! Back when the Lautenberg news hit, I wrote to the Health Org.s listed as supporting his "InstaBan" request.

I've been a constant financial supporter of a couple of them for 20+ yrs. and made it very clear that I would no longer offer my financial support to any "Health" institution that would so blindly and carelessly through their support behind such a rash and apparently uninformed politician without as much questioning his agenda. Have not received a reply from either regarding my letters.

I'm figuring they will be sure to contact me for another donation again soon, Then we can "Chat" ! My luck it wil probably be some poor telemarketing operator that has no Idea what I'm rambling on about though. lol

That's awesome! I'm glad you're making your voice heard. Even if it was to a telemarketer, they take notes and hopefully your comments will be heard by "the powers that be."

I know it's all about money, but can't we write to these health organizations and say that we were considering supporting them financially, ...until we learned their stance on e-cigs?

I don't know. I'm just frustrated at the current climate and want to do more than just write to politicians.

It really smacks of an ulterior motive to see this industry fail and I would just be naive to not give your suggestion some validity as, at least, a possible explanation for their consistant comments.

Just sickens me to think that these "Health Org.s" are placing their own funding intrests above the purposes for which they were founded on. Not to mention the health and lives of countless people!

Mike
Bingo---They must stay relevant and continue to get funding. The mouse maze leads to the dollar bill in every instance.

It is always about the money.
Not about our welfare:(

That's a great idea!
It's prefectly clear that money is what's motivating all of this.
The government proved after the April 15th protests that they aren't the least bit interested in listening to the people and going to them this far out before an election isn't going to help.
BUT, if we start letting these non-profit-health-conscience groups know that they will no longer be receiving our donations until they do something positive to help the health of those that are donating, well, that just may be the ticket.

Just wish I would have thought about this before I made a donation to a cancer walk yesterday...

This was cut & pasted from the forum thread that caused me to withdraw my support of the American Heart Assoc. and the American Cancer Society. Both which I had supported for many years.

"Mar 24 12:20 PM US/Eastern
Statement of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, American Heart Association, American Lung Association and the Campaign for tobacco-Free Kids

WASHINGTON, March 24 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids applaud Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey's call for the Food and Drug Administration to exert its authority and immediately remove e-cigarettes from the market.

FDA officials have been quoted numerous times in many publications during the past few weeks saying that e-cigarettes are "new drugs," which require prior approval from the FDA before they are allowed to be sold. Without this approval, e-cigarettes are illegal to market or sell. Despite these statements, no action has been taken to remove e-cigarettes from the market.

Currently, e-cigarettes are being sold in 62 kiosks at malls across the United States, with plans to expand to another 55. E-cigarettes are also being marketed towards young people, who can purchase them in fruit flavors and online, without having to verify their ages.

Makers and retailers of these products have been making unproven health claims about their products, claiming that they are safer than normal cigarettes and asserting that they can help people to quit smoking. Absent scientific evidence, these claims are in blatant violation of FDA rules.

In fact, no studies have been done on e-cigarettes to date regarding their health effects or their effectiveness as cessation aids. Like the "light" and "low tar" cigarettes that tobacco companies claimed were healthier for consumers, there is no evidence to back up the claims made by e-cigarette makers. In September of 2008, the World Health Organization stated that they have "no evidence to confirm the product's safety or efficacy."

Our organizations thank Senator Lautenberg for his leadership in urging the FDA to remove these products from the market and echo his call that the FDA move quickly to remove these products from the marketplace.

While the FDA currently does not have jurisdiction over tobacco products, it does have jurisdiction over other products that contain nicotine including e-cigarettes, which have been marketed as delivering nicotine without tobacco.

As I mentioned in previous post, My letters have apparently fallen on deaf ears. but if anyone else agrees that these org.s are failing to represent your health intrests, I would certainly encourage you to "Speak up for yourselves" and let them know. As they say "Money Talks...".
