I agree it's cut down on the occasional dry hits and metallic taste. For me, it's also cut down on the amount of gurgling when the atty is firing and the juice is wicking as well as the occasional juice leeching out the air hole. Must be holding the juice longer under the coil to vaporize instead of collecting in the bottom section of the GTUS. Oh and did I say, it produces more vaper than just the SS mesh wick. 'tho, I have noticed when I leave it sit for awhile, it takes a couple of vapes to get it working up to snuf again. Not sure why that is?
Agreed, back when I was running the mesh "U" wicks in my V3 the amount of condensate that would collect in the vape chamber was crazy when compared to a straight cotton wick (it's mostly that condensate that causes the "GTUS Gurgle" and collects on the tank when running straight mesh)...I'd only be guessing why the cotton lessens the condensate production but it does, rarely do I get anything coming out of the air hole when cotton is involved...might have something to do with the fact that it "is" slower to heat?
I think it's time we put together a co-op to commission a Thermal/Fluid Dynamics study and reverse engineer it...create a GTUS "white paper"

I just started trying the "threadstick" (though, I like the name Quigstick better). It's working well for me.

Are you wrapping your mesh around a long thin allen wrench?
No - what you're seeing coming out of the vise is a sewing needle. That's the eye of the needle 'looking' like an allen wrench. I wrap my wicks around a 'hat pin'. I use the sewing needle to pull the cotton line through the center of the wick.

mine also takes a couple drags to get it going but onces it's going it works good

With the bore out method and the 270 mesh, I think the GTank is becoming my favorite. A lot of it is dependent on what kind of vape I want at any given moment, but as far as sheer consistency, ease of use and flawless wicking its beating my ZAP and Penelope so far, haven't set up the DID yet. Flavor is really balanced too, not as bright as the top coil systems obviously, but really nicely balanced

Agreed, and I totally get what Mike is saying re: the Quigstick, the first vape (if it's cold) is a throw away...but then, watch out!...because the vape is coolish, you tend to just keep suckin' on it...then all of a sudden, OMG, what have I done 
not having much luck with mine yet, but i am sure ill figure it out. cant get it to wick right yet....have to just mess with the set up until i get it figured out...

I've found if you set it up correctly,the way Dan,Sturm or Raidy suggests you will have a perfectly working atty.I've fooled around with some of the suggested modifications and each either made no difference or made them worse.Simple is usually better.Thanks again Dan,Sturm and Raidy.
has anyone had problems with extreme leaking thru the airhole? i know this is a gravity fed gennie but do you folks tilt this mod like you would, let's say, an orion?

Quigs - you inspired me to play around tonight w/ my GTUS. Here's my Vivi long wick mod for the GTUS.
I used cotton thread from some cheese cloth I got from my wife. I threaded 10 pieces through a needle and doubled it. Then pulled it through a 'straw' wick made from 35mmx35mm piece of SS. So I had 20 strands of cotton going through the wick. I left the needle attached so I could pull it through the hole in the upper piece.
Then I thought "why cut if off flush" with the top of the wick, so I split it into 2 long wicks.
It was working Ok, but I really wasn't sure it it was working better or not. So I decided to take 1/2 the thread of cotton out. Look at the tip of the strands I removed. You can see they've charged/burnt. Don't know why just the tips and not the area under the coil. Maybe the tips dry out 1st and burn.
Ok - w/ just 10 strands of cotton, I did notice a difference. It seemed to wick better and produce more vapor than w/ just the SS mesh wick. I think this will become part of my standard setup. No pictures of actual vaping, but here's a pic of vape coming from the air hole. It'll just pour out the hole as long as I have the button pressed on the PV. I must of vaped 1/2 tank of juice in 20 minutes, just vaping and vaping and vaping trying to get a dry hit and couldn't.
And a gratuitous picture of the coil. I just love seeing a working coil glow. Playing around tonight I just wiggled the wick out of the coil to pull the cotton through it. I'm guessing this setup will work even better when I put a new coil on the wick. This ones a tad loose in that I can easily slip the wick in and out of it.

i bought an unused gtank off the classies and after looking at your pics i see that you installed o-rings between each section. my gtanks only came with a replacement o-ring for where the juice cup attaches. is your setup standard or did you add the o-rings. any idea where i could get my hands on some of that size?

Sounds like you're either not getting a good seal around your wick or your overwicking. I would think the former - is your wick loose where it goes into the juice chamber? Try rolling a thicker wick. If it's tight,try a different size mesh - some prefer 325 some 400. Either way, you do need to fiddle with it to find what works best for you.
