Wow, sounds like some good work going on. I mentioned a long time back abt using the gold IC socket pins for plug in coils. Just never got to it yet. lol
That may be ideal in this situation.

On the soldering, I prefer the 4-6% silver solder (Rat Shack), a 35 watt iron and you'll need a good flux paste since its nichrome. One with Zinc Chloride is what I use. Then just rinse any excess flux away before using and you're ready to go.
I also keep a soldering tip dedicated for coil soldering. They just unscrew to swap out.
