    Hello everyone.
This is a big community and I believe there are a lot of people with such experience who could share it.
I'm trying to convince my family members (a lot of smokers in it) to switch to vaping and I'm getting a lot of BUT's. One of the biggest comes from ladies, saying something like "I know that if you stop smoking you will get extra X pounds/kilos each year no matter what". And that's a bit of a problem, especially for women. What about the situation when you switch to vaping instead?

Please share your experience, is it the same story for switching to vaping that it is for people who just stopped smoking at all at some point?

When I switched to vaping I started losing weight. Not a huge amount but hey any weight loss is good. I was worried I'd gain weight but I had to quit smoking and took the chance. It's almost a year since I started vaping in earnest and 5 months since I quit smoking totally. I've stopped losing weight but I'm not gaining either. So tell those women it's up to them if they gain weight. When I found myself wanting to eat for no reason I just vaped more.

Nicotine is known to increase physical metabolism. People who quit smoking often put on extra pounds due to decreased metabolism as well as supplementing the hand-to-mouth fixation with food instead of cigarettes. This compounds weight gain in quitters as the caloric increase goes into a slower metabolism.

With ecigs, the hand-to-mouth fixation is covered and the increased physical metabolism is maintained through the nicotine in eliquid.

I don't even play a doctor on TV, but this is info I have absorbed over the years.

BTW, I never gained a pound when I quit smoking through ecigs. I am a man, but don't hold that against me.

I know it is common when quitting smoking to gain weight, also because most take up eating more sweets in place of their nicotine cravings
I have thyroid issues so well weight gain is an issue anyways
but here's the second bonus for me with switching to vaping, it started tricking my sweet tooth ;) so I stopped eating sweets and started vaping more, I've since been able to maintain my weight (which is huge for me, I can't lose weight but I'm not gaining either)

I maintained my weight while quitting smoking. Over the years I have gained slowly, but this year I lost 30 pounds just by being aware of what I eat and pushing away from the table once I start to feel the satisfied feeling. I now weigh the same as I weighed when I was 30! I've dropped from 38" pants to 34" waist size. I'm at retirement age now, btw.
