First of all, I would like to point out to those few that actually read the books and watch the show, YES I already made a thread a couple months ago about the entire A Song of Ice and Fire series, but since there are many people that watch the show, yet don't read the books I thought I would make a thread seeing if any of you guys out there that haven't already stopped into my unlively ASoIaF thread, and also this way you won't have to see a gazillion spoilers. (funny, my spell checker doesn't show gazillion being a typo, hahaha) Since we're about two and a half weeks away from the season premier I thought I would see if there's other fans lurking out there.

The third season of Game of Thrones will comprise of the first half of the third book of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, A Storm of Swords by George RR Martin. This book is considered by MANY fans the best of the first three, and also the best of all five according to many (certainly to me), and the show looks like it is going to surpass even my wildest hopes for this season that I have been waiting for since the show began (as have the creators and producers of the show, as they have said themselves). Game of Thrones is one of the few media adaptations of a book/series that is not a total disappointment to most fans, and in fact is my favorite television show of all time. Here's the trailer, maybe I can get some new fans to sprout up, because even if you don't watch this show, after seeing this trailer you will probably want to start!!! :D

As you other fans can tell by my Location and House Targaryen banner in my signature, I am in love with this story, and have read each book roughly 6-8 times each and probably seen each episode of the show just as many times!!! :) Just trying to spread the word, there are many fans of this series that aren't even into fantasy, so don't let you put that off. My dad loves this and was the one who actually introduced me to the books and he isn't into fantasy or sci fi AT ALL! So don't prejudge it, just watch it!!! (and read it)

For any possible prospective fans out there in the making, here's another good trailer that you can get a good idea of what to expect, since I can't find the better season 3 trailer on youtube, only on HBO Go. Give these vids a look and see if it's something you may be interested in!!!

Also a warning to those that may want to watch this! This show is NOT Lord of the Rings. Though not nearly as gritty and dark as the books, the show is still a dark and excellent show. It's not a happily ever after style fantasy show. It's more like the real middle ages when lords lived in huge castles, while everybody else lives in hovels the size of dog houses, characters get killed, the good guys DON'T always win (though it's still awesome!) and everything is perfectly hunky dorey. That being said, it is excellent, and quite worthy of dubbing GRRM the "modern day Tolkien" (LotR is probably tied up there with ASoIaF for my favorite fiction series ever so don't think I'm bagging on Lord of the Rings, I absolutely LOVE it and the movies, but it's quite different!)

defiantly one of the best shows made to date,i just got my wife into watching them with me cant wait for the new season to start!
the downside of it being such a good show is it will probable get cancelled to early like all good shows,so they can fill the spot with some reality crap that cost them nothing to make.
Eh, I dunno about that. If it were on a regular cable station like Fox (especially if it was on Fox, they are horrible about cancelling the best shows and I will NEVER forgive them for Firefly) I may worry about that, but HBO is different. Game of Thrones is by far one of HBO's most successful shows running right now and it has a plan. Since it's based off the books there is no worry about it meandering into far out crappy wackyness later on, it will roughly follow the books. The show is getting more popular as time goes on and more and more people are watching it. I realized a few weeks ago how many people I know, from friends, family, coworkers, etc. that watch it now a days and I was very surprised. It's A LOT more popular than most people probably realize.

oh i agree, its a very popular show, also agree about firefly one of tv's best made shows of all times and only gets one season and a movie lol,i still ..... about it to my wife like once a month lol.
Hahaha. Fox has cancelled A LOT of their best shows over the years, I really have no idea what is going on in their heads.

"Alright, give me the run down of what we're looking at here."
"Well sir, we have a lot of very mediocre shows right now that aren't very exciting or original, oh and there's the new show Firefly. It has excellent ratings but their aren't a lot of viewers because we have it stuck in the Friday night deathslot when very few people are even home watching TV, rather than a weeknight when it would blow up and become one of our most popular shows."
"Well, I watched it once, and since I'm not a big fan of sci fi, or anything that's not a horribly unoriginal sitcom or reality show so let's go ahead and cancel it."
"But sir, I just told you, it has extremely high ratings, if we were to simply move it to a weeknight when people are actually at home watching TV it will likely turn into one of our most successful shows."
"NO! Cancel it! I told you I don't like original shows, ONLY reality shows and unoriginal sitcoms, GOT IT! Oh yeah, cancel Family Guy too. I know that show has a lot of fans and good ratings too, but like I said, it's too original. Viewers are stupid you see, Harry. They WANT to watch the same god awful shows, over and over and over and over and over again. A comedy is only funny when it has a laugh track, otherwise how on Earth will you ever know when to laugh? Get it?"
"Well, I don't know, I still don't think..."
"SILENCE YOU PEASANT! JUST GET RID OF THE ORIGINAL **bleep**ing SHOWS YOU IDIOT! Oh yeah, and create another reality show. One similar to the Simple Life, now THAT is a great show!!"
**Harry shakes his head and looks at his boss like he's an idiot and goes to cancel all the original, highly rated shows, and tries to come up with another Simple Life**

Thank GOD GoT is not on Fux...

Wow, I just saw that Game of Thrones is rated the third best TV show on imdb by A-Z user ratings, with an absolutely OUTSTANDING rating of 9.4/10. WOW that is extremely high! :D

Even better, it's rated as THE number 1 highest rated show by "number votes". Absolutely amazing, and well earned as the best TV show on television right now (in my humble opinion)

Can't wait for the new season. I've read all the books (so far) and I almost hate to admit I got HBO JUST for Games of Thrones. :p Just wish GRRM would get going on a new book, the wait for the last one was ridiculous!
Though it will still be a few years, we won't be seeing any more crazy waits like inbetween AFFC and ADWD (that was just totally ridiculous that he took that long, sorry it was) because he has now promised to keep up with the show. He's got two more books to publish before the show catches up to the 7th book.

Oh I know the wait was crazy last time. I had the book on preorder for like two years? Hopefully the show will keep him somewhat on task this time.

Another Game of Thrones fan here, both the books and the HBO series. I started with the series and when season 1 was over I just had to read the books, finishing all the books before season 2 started.

It was great reading about the characters that I already met visually. Peter Dinklage shines as Tyrion Lannister, one of my favorite characters. He brings additional wit to his role. Even though I've read all the books, I'm eagerly awaiting Season 3.

I really hope George Martin picks up the pace on finishing the next book!
