I started watching a week or two ago and am about to finish season 2. I'm freaking loving it, and now I'm going to have to read the books too!! I know most people read and then watch, but I tend to do the opposite with everything.

For me as a rule, I prefer reading the book after watching a movie or show. There is so much more information in the books that it fills in gaps that may not have been included in the show. It makes reading it so much more enjoyable to me since you are familiar with the characters. With this series however, either way would be good since the series is so well done. :)

I like to read or listen to the books after watching also. I've read all the books now though. Season 3 needs to get here sooner.

Love, love, love, love, love the show and the books. Even got the gf to watch it w/ me.
She loves that "young pretty girl w/ dragons" (well, I guess that's to be expected, she does like girls, and who doesn't like the mother of dragons =p)
However, she won't read the books, kinda like she won't read LoTR series.
I love the books, can't wait for the winds of winter. The show is one of the better made adaptations but it's still lacking a lot of the details, hopefully now they are breaking the "A" book up into different seasons the details will pick up. (who am I trying to kid, I just want MORE and MORE and MORE of the viewing pleasure)

I managed to make her watch firefly w/ me too, she can now id serenity and cpt tightpants on meme.... lol

That's just a shame! Personally, and no offense to those that haven't read them, you still have time to do so, but I think that anybody that hasn't read the Lord of the Rings (at least books 1 through 6 (all three parts are technically 2 books apiece even though published as a single volume) is honestly missing out on one of the best series ever written of all time. There's a reason kids are still reading the Hobbit (which was published in the 1920's) in high school today (I did ~9-10 years ago in English class). I am actually rereading the whole series right now, I'm at the 3rd book where Pippen and Merry are in Fangorn for the Entsmoot. Not to derail the thread, but I really believe everybody should read Lord of the Rings. Though A Song of Ice and Fire is not for everybody, EVERYBODY should read LotR and will get something out of it. So, moral of my post, if you've never read them, DO IT!

I've read and enjoyed them as well. Just got the Hobbit DVD and hopefully will get a chance to watch it this weekend. I've heard it is very well done.

Just saw this that it says the Hobbit was published in the 20's, it was actually the 30's, (1937 I THINK, not 100% on that though) but I can't edit it. I know that matters naught and changes nothing but it was bugging me that I couldn't edit it! :p

**spoiler alert**

Ahhh what an awesome ending!!!! When if first showed Daenerys and Ser Jorah on the ship to Astapor I was super worried that Arstan Whitebeard (Ser Barristan Selmy in disguise) wasn't there but when he did actually show up at the end I was literally like "woooot!" I was so pumped. I almost thought they were going to leave him out since he joins them in Qarth with Strong Belwas in the books and is the one that brings her the 3 ships. They're already setting up for a few epic moments that will happen during this/next season and showing the tension between Tyrion and Tywin, etc. They're also leading us towards the "Two weddings" (you book readers know what I mean!!) Though I can't wait for next week to see Arya because I love her story line in book 3.
