so today when a new vapor walks into a store we have all kinds of toys to pick from. weve got vv mods, vw mods, mech mods, ego batteries, cig a likes...well what i was wondering whats the history of the e cig? what was it like as a vaper when e cigs were brand new? what was the first thing to come out that wasnt a cigalike? when did mech mods become a thing or provari or just any of the fancy stuff we have today.

In my day we took a toaster, stuffed it full of cotton, dripped 30ml of juice into it, taped a funnel on top and blew our faces off! That's the way it was and we liked it, weeee Loved it!! All you hippy-dippy whipper snappers with your new fangled Provareos and MVVP V3's and your TaiKay's Foggy Bottom burners got it easy!

I remember two and a half years ago when I started there were only really atomizers (with cartridges), direct dripping on bridgeless atomizers, and cartomizers. Also back then I remember thinking that Dekang was pretty darn good. The follies of youth.

And, we really do appreciate your intrepid spirit of adventure! Where would we be without the many "faceless" what-the-he-- we'll-give it-a-try experimenters? 
The original e-cigarettes had big issues with reliability (juice leaking into auto batteries etc) but were good enough to persuade me to stop smoking back in 2008. Today's stuff is light years ahead of the early gear - which is nice.
The very name "mod" is a carryover of when the pioneers of vaping actually modded flashlights to be used as a personal vaporizor.
Correct. Before 2009, the only option was cig-a-likes. Then in 2009, Trog, from the UK came along and made the first ever mod called the Screwdriver. It was a big improvement over the alternative at the time.
I'm from the flashlight world and I'd say half the technology and terms are carried over from flashlight tech. The lithium-ion batteries used were developed for flashlights. Some of the best chargers you can get in vape shops are from flashlight manufacturers. I'm wondering why they don't sell flashlights as a side... To me vaporizers and flashlights go hand in hand. One can be used to carry a spare battery for the other.

then of course came the battery pack models where one would have a belt or backpack with a 3" thick cable leading to a helmet where the user could safely vape for up to 5 whole minutes before it ran out of power.
these had the unintended side effect of launching would be vaperers into the air if they misused the equipment or it suffered a malfunction.

If regulations go completely wrong, I can see vendors selling a "provari" flashlight, topped with an LED flashlight top, with a 510 connection.(wink wink).
"No, Officer, it's a flashlight..."
Since you won't be able to get e-liquid anymore except in proprietary sealed carts, it really won't matter.
...and I still have a flashlight mod I made five years ago, in the dark ages!! 8-o Don't miss that AT ALL, but what I've done before I can do again (thanks FDA). I do hope everyone is saving their connector bits and pieces for the future...
Only if they find a way to get liquid nicotine that could well be strictly controlled. Otherwise, there won't be anything to DIY.
