So I picked up my 1st rsst, and have absolutely no idea what i'm doing.
Gone through almost 30cm of ni-chrome wire, and still do not have anything that can kick the protank's rear end.
I thought the rsst will be vastly better.
1st one i think i oxidized too much. Could not solve the hotspots. Eventually got 2 of the 3 rotations to fire, so filled it. Kept tasting chemical, and burnt. Made new one the next day. Did not oxidize the mesh. Again only managed 2 firing rotations. Tried pulsing it, fiddled with the wire, pulsed again without luck.
I get the basic taste, not a lot of vapor, and funny aftertaste.
And most south africans still fiddle with ce5's and protanks, so no one close to show me the ropes.
I'm starting to consider a build with silica and see how that goes. Otherwise it will be filed with the ithaka clone to be forgotten about.

AGA-TD's are set up for dual coil, which you may want to try at some point, so that's something to look into. Also glass tanked.

I started out w/ ss mesh, and if you wish to stay that route, there's tons of youtube vids detailing how to set up a good ss mesh wick & coil; however, I've since switched to ekowool as a wick; I wrap my coil on either an 6/32 or 8/32 machine screw (that's #6, 32TPI & #8, 32 TPI, not 6/32" measurement) depending on the ekowool diameter (8/32 for 3mm, 6/32 for 2mm), and feed the wick through the coil after the coil's made; delicious, no pulsing / no hotspots.

Also, might try ditching nichrome and switching to kanthal. amazon's a good source for the ekowool, and TEMCo Industrial Power Supply is the cheapest way to get kanthal that I've found.

What mod are you using it on? The burnt taste is the hotspot on the coil they all have to glow evenly. I have only used Kanthal . Try the cigarette paper trick on the wick and coil to stop hotspots. Also try torching the coil on the wick before putting it in the tank to oxidize it. Last sleeve the wick with ekowool or silica you won't get hotspots at all with that. Hope this helps.

I was sure i replied to this before, but tapatalk recons i did not.
So here goes.
K100 will be the eventual home, but for now it's on svd.
I tried the ciggie paper tonight. It is better, but far from perfect. Pt2 still wins in all fields.
Little vapor, every 3rd hit is burnt, and very, very little flavour.

After the cig paper was burned off, it was firing perfectly. Started to glow in center, then a hLf a sec later the sides would glow. So I added juice, test fired, then the coil caught fire. Guess I'm doing it wrong. At least tomorrow night, is anther night to trt

You burned all the paper off right? Just enough to go one time around the coil. I don't see how it caught fire unless some paper was still there. It does take time for the coil to season and get full flavor maybe a tank. The glowing from center out is what you want that sounds good. Are the volts low like 3.3 when you are starting out and not watts? Then go up in volts. You should not be getting any burnt taste.

Yes, all the paper was burned off, and blown away the ashes. I think it was the juice that caught fire. since the flames only happened after I added juice, and added a drop on the coil. I will try to finish this tank as it is now, and keep the protank around for satisfaction value. If this does not work, I'm going to go with a tripple 2mm sillica wick and hope for the best. Another Solution is to drop in some ekowool, and insert a rolled up ss mesh wick in the ekowool. This has to work like a charm. Just a pitty that there is no ekowool anywhere in south africa. I will have to import.

I think that your chemical burnt taste is because your mesh is not wicking. There are numerous videos on you tube that talk to this subject and the different rolling techniques of the mesh. As far as your coil hot spots watch this video it IMHO is one of the best that puts the techniques in simple understandable and doable ways. You can even buy preroll mesh from them or other vendors. I have an RSST and like it very much. It is cheap and easy to build. The top cap is large, so you wont get the HUGE clouds and hot vapor that drippers will (or even lots of gennys). I like 28 gauge kanthal with microcoils and cotton, but 30 is fine too. I shoot for 1.5 ohm coils on my eVic. Low enough to work well but high enough fo the regulated device will fire them. Good Luck and have fun!

I think I'm getting there. At least all 4 turns fire up. Unfortunately it would seem the centre 2 fire a little dimmer than the outside. Not going to fill it yet. Going to play with it a bit more in the hope to solve this.

Edit...
Got that issue sorted. I just kept on pulsing.

After adding the juice it was same problem before; hot spots all over the place. Fiddled some more.

I've used silica, works great in certain applications, can't keep up with a micro coil though. Recently did the Dragon Nano coil build with cotton, Works like a charm, quick to heat up, consistent nice read coil on all 10 wraps, massive vape, good flavor. Expecting a genesis rba in the mail today, that I ordered from Fast Tech. Knew it was going to take weeks to get here, so I bought the Russian rba, and am in love, gave away one of my protanks, the other one is collecting dust, use the drip tip though, so all is not lost.

Will be interesting to compare the Zen style genesis against the Russian, Hopefully I can get it set up without to much frustration. Learned some great methods for wrapping a coil and viewed at least 100 different ways to leave your, I mean to build a genesis , so am confident that I will get the genie to do it's vape best.

hey huys, i need some help i actually just got a Rsst yesterday, im a novice and just started with mech modding and RBA's, my first build was good up until the hit. it seems that the hit is too hard and the vapor production wasnt as thick as I wanted, now could it be that i need to drill another hole on the drip shield/cover? (theres already one hole) to get better vape production? and is my juice strength (12 mg nicotine, medium) just to high nicotine level that's causing me to cough? pls need help!!
