You don't really need to soak it, just rinse it and paper towel it dry. Make sure you get the moisture out of the plastic cone thing where you got juice before, you can just blow that out. I also use the "thermometer flick" to get most water out of the things, then just wipe it with a paper towel. Watch out for the little orings, if you lose those you are doomed to leakage.

P.S. You can tell from my signature I don't even use these anymore, but I hope you get yours going well.

ETA: see if you can get yourself a syringe so when you need to tear things down you can take the juice out to use it after you are done cleaning, or whatever. I use RBA's and without it I would end up tossing so much juice!

Also, to dry the wicks, gently press them in a paper towel. You can then put the thing together, without the outside tube and dry burn the coils to clean them up. Do not replace the top cone over the coil so you can look down at the coils.

If you are using VV, dial it down low and just turn it on for a few seconds, stop for a few, and repeat until you see the coils are red across all of them. This burns off the carbon gunk. Don't burn them too long, or they can pop though. Just until you see them all glowing red (not white). It might take no time at all, or it could take quite a few tries to clean up the coils depending on how gunky they were.
