You may have to play with coil placement and wicking. You want the air to strike the coil, not going over or under the coil. Your flavor will also change depending on how hard or loose you wick the coils so try different wicking techniques until you find what works for you.

I really dislike, and never had any luck with, any smok RBA sections, so I am not the one to comment on those.

I always had bad luck with the style where the wicks hang in the juice. They seem to wick slower from the extra juice travel. Keeping your cotton off the glass helps and the wick ends just floating off the bottom deck. If you can drip straight on your coils and the first hit is good then it's a wicking problem. Also don't want a tight fit through the wick slots. Filled but not tight.

A good way to learn is to watch a few videos on youtube covering the tank or RBA you're trying to use.

A very good option would be to pick up an inexpensive RDA (rebuildable dripping atomizer) to learn the basics of building, wicking and using rebuildables. RDA devices are much more tolerant than tanks when it comes to rookie mistakes in coil dimensions, placement and wicking. You rarely have to worry about leaking with one, but a challenging RTA leak mess can send you back to the world of drop in coils.

The Oumier Wasp is a very simple, inexpensive RDA that uses only one coil and is almost leakproof.

Go ahead and order yourself these two...

$5.99 Mad Dog Styled RDA Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer - stainless steel + aluminum / 24mm diameter at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping
$2.83 VCOIL Ni80 Tri-Core Clapton Pre-Coiled Wire - 10 pcs/pack / 28*3/40 AWG / 0.32mm*3/0.08mm dia. / 0.3ohm at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Space the coils so they fit/line up into the slots of the RDA deck and wick them with 1/4 of a cotton pad with the outer layers pulled off.

I can guarantee you a nice combination of flavor and clouds that will be very comparable to a Sub Ohm tank but better. With that RDA you'll want to fire that build at 61-72Watts depending on the warmth you want and the flavor of your juice.

When it comes down to it every atomizer is different, there isn't really a standard build for every atty out there, I'd really suggest looking for flavor builds for the ones you have and see what people are using.

Welcome and glad you joined.
RDA's give me the best flavor, might consider reading:

Practice and more practice. Trying different coil placements and airflow to find what you like. Drip tips can affect airflow and therefore flavor. Some people say different material wires affect flavor, I haven’t noticed that but some do so try that. Finally different resistance coils, you may like over .5 ohms or prefer lower builds. Along with that higher and lower wattage and/or temperature makes the juice taste different along with corresponding airflow.
