It seems to me that the ultimate goal and better vaping happens by increasing the watts you vape at. Assuming this is true then there are two basic ways to get there; decrease resistance or increase voltage. W=(V^2)/R. To get to higher voltage you want an APV. To get to lower resistance you want an RBA. Now assuming that, for example, ~14.5W=[(6^2)/2.5]=[(4^2)/1.1] both setups create about the same watts.
Isn't getting to higher watts through RBA and mech mod with good equipment going to be less expensive than getting good APV?
Won't you have better battery life running at the lower voltage?
Isn't there a consensus that one path to higher watt vaping is better than the other?
I'm planning my next steps up from vv ego, protank with rebuilt lower ohm coils and I'm leaning toward something like a good mech mod and RBA.

You would probably not use the same wire gauge to make those two setups. Which adds some factors to take into consideration.

If I'm not entirely mistaken, most APVs will give virtually the same experience. Main difference would be that most pulse at 6v to emulate lower voltages, while a select few (Provari and...?) is said to be using, made-up-quote "something much better".

NO. Your battery life depends on the amperage you use which is Volts/Ohms or watts/Volts. Battery life is dependent on the amps you draw and the Amp hour rating of the battery. A 3000mah/mili amp hour -3 amp hour battery will last for one hour at 3 amps or 3000 mili amps. Power or watts is = Volts x amps. Just lowering voltage will not change anything if you decrease the resistance. Because a Watt is a Watt no matter the voltage. If you use 15 watts and you change things like lowering the ohms and the volts your battery life will not be extended.

I'd have two answers for the above:

1) Yes...to a point.
2) Define "better vaping". Flavor? TH? Cloud chasing?

I like good vapor production, TH and flavor, but am not on the hunt for huge clouds to "hotbox" an entire room. For me, somewhere between 7.5-10 watts (depending on the juice) is my sweet spot, and that's easily achievable using a regulated device.

There are so many ways to pluck this chicken anymore. ATM I'm using a RDA on a mechanical, would you believe the coil measures out just shy of 3 ohms? And, the VTF is great, and a little 18490 battery lasts a full day. that's just 6 watts

IMO we really miss the point sometimes. The goal is not to see how high a wattage (or how low a resistance) we can use. The goal is to get the VTF that I (or you) desire, and then find the most efficient way to get there.

Something that I would point out. Say your goal is a .5ohm coil, and you miss by just .1ohms ... that's a larger difference in wattage than I'm using total.

Thanks for the answers! The important thing I'm trying to do is avoid making any more wrong purchases (read wasting money). After watching Todd's scar rda review, this will be my next purchase. Probably followed by the magneto. Then by a kick. Does this sound like a plan that won't result in regret lol?

It's all so subjective, it's hard to say if you will like those setups or not. IMO the real trick to vaping is learning how to use whatever you are using. You would really be surprised by how much you can change the way almost anything performs. With any of the RDA/RBA's, it's more about the build than it is the RDA/RBA you choose.

BTW, where in Utah, I'm in Otown

If by Otown you mean Ogden then I'm right outside there lol
