Getting zapped by my eleaf istick 20w

Hi there, first post ever so bare with me. I've been using my eleaf istick 20w happily for over 2 months now, getting great vapor production, all was well. Then, about a month ago, I started noticing the eleaf was not vaping well at my current configuration. Here's what I'm running: Kanger Aerotank with upgraded 1.8 ohm dual coils, 100% vg (or max vg) juice, normally set at 4.0-4.3v.

So, with this same configuration, I can now only fire the leaf at about 3.3-3.7v without burning the hell out of my wicks, which are new. Still getting decent clouds and flavor, so I kept using it.

I just figured that's how it would be, until a few days ago when the dang thing zapped me! I got a very mild shock on my tongue when I took a hit, similar to licking a 9v batter. Ever do that? I know you have...

This happened a few more times before I put the thing down and bravely ran away.

I'm guessing there is a short somewhere. I would return the thing (bought from sweet-vapes), but the 30-day warranty is up, AND i lost the box with the serial number.

Sorry for the long post. Any suggestions? I upgraded to a 30w yesterday. I'll probably scrap the thing and invest in a new APV to have as a back-up to the 30w...

You already did the best thing... put it down, and leave it down. Scrap it and move on, which you did also. These things should last longer then a few months. And mine (20W) has, so far. I don't expect it to last forever tho. It should just die out w/o shocking us tho.

Sweet Vapes replaced my 50w after the 30 days were up. I'd say it'd at least be worth contacting them to see if there's anything they'd be willing to do for you. Worst comes to worst, they say no, which is what you're going with already.

Are you positive it was a shock and not hot e liquid? Last summer my Aerotanks shot hot drops of liquid up the chimney at me and even burned my lip and tongue. It happened a lot while I was driving. The AC in my truck doesn't work well.

yeah, that's happened to me before - this was different for sure. Like I said, similar to licking a 9v...

Update: I got rid of my 20w eleaf istick and upgraded to a 30w a friend gave me for free. Everything was working fine with the same setup as before (Aerotank, 1.8ohm bdc, 100% VG at 4.0v or so). Just yesterday I noticed the voltage read-out on the eleaf was going nuts - fluctuating all over the place! I'm starting to think the problem is with the Aerotank and not the eleaf. Someone point me in the right direction for a fix, or at least a way to understand this problem. I'll probably just buy a new tank eventually.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with the 20. As far as the fluctuating ohms are concerned, that's usually poor connection between the coil and the mod. Check to see that your coil head is screwed in tight. If that doesn't help, check the pin at the bottom of the Aerotank and the one in the mod to see if there is any juice or dirt. No juice or dirt? Then take a small screwdriver and GENTLY pry up the pin in your mod jus a tiny bit, making sure it stays centered.

One of those methods usually takes care of fluctuating ohms.

Don't have the ATs anymore, and I've spent too much on that AC already. And the truck is 12 years old, and I am broke.

100% vg can be tough on any tank. Vg is quite viscous (thick), and wicks slowly.

If you can, use e-liquid with some pg (propylene glycol) in it along with the vg. If you have a pg allergy or sensitivity, dilute your 100% vg by 10% distilled water.

You should try and return it and get a new one as it may be faulty!

From an electrical perspective, this can only be explained through a poor / intermittent contact between the eleaf body and the atty body. Which would create the conditions of a circuit closing between the eleaf body through your hand, body, lips and atty.

A voltmeter could put this in evidence. Or you can try wearing a glove and seeing if the effect is still detectable.
