I always hear about how these things produce a massive throat hit, but I'm not getting that experience. I get lots of flavor and vapor, but a practically non-existent throat hit. What am I doing wrong?

Okay, so lets figure this out for ya because mine blasts me with TH from H E Double Hockey Sticks.

What Resistance do you have the coil set at and what voltage are you using? Exactly which wicks are you using and what material are they made of?

An example of mine is 5 wraps with 30 Gauge Kanthal Resistance wire using Pure nickel Non Resistance wire wrapped around 2 pieces of wick. The wick that I have going down the chamber is 3.5 MM Silica Wick and the top small piece for added juice wicking is 3.0 MM Silica wick. The resulting coil/wick combo I get with this is a 1.3 Ohm Coil and a very good wicking to allow for maximum juice replenishment between usage resulting in Zero Dry hits until the tank is truly empty.

I am using it on my Provari right now set at 3.6 Volts and it hits me like a truck.

Hope this helps;
Nate aka Darth Vapor

Well I have a variable wattage device without a display, so after doing some math my coil is 1.8 ohms. I'm using 30 gauge kanthal a1 resistance wire and .999 silver for the no resistance. I have about 5 coils around a single silica wick, which i think is 3mm. I have my device set to 9 watts, and if I go any higher the juice burns. I never get dry or gurgly hits, and I can also vape it to the last drop. I'm vaping at 24mg strength so I don't think it's a lack of nicotine. I have tried coils with two pieces of wick with exactly the same results.

I have one of the ManCaveMods Variable Wattage devices with the DNA chipset, and I also have a pair of Ego Twists. My coils are wrapped tightly around the wick, and they are evenly spaced, and relatively close together, but not so close that they would touch. I'm starting to wonder whether or not I have a defective Penelope, honestly.

I've tried everywhere from 2 to 7 coils, and I always end up with the same result. Also, it shouldn't really matter that much, being that my device is variable wattage. At the same wattage, my carto tanks hit like a beast. I'm so confused.

I had similar problems with a DID , I was using a lavatube and from what I could tell PWM isn't the best match for rebuildables , also took a metre to it and found that it couldn't keep up when it came to power draw . I'm not saying that this is your problem but its worth looking into

You really need a multi meter for doing RB stuff honestly. If you have an intermittent short, or a loose connection somewhere inside, your ohms will be all over the place. I just removed a 5 wrap of 32awg kanthal, spliced with silver NR wire and it clocked in at 1.8ohms, and hit like a mack truck with tons of TH at only 3.2v on a mini p. What PG/VG ratio is your juice? That plays into it as well. Try it on an all mechanical setup, to rule out anything in the electronics too.

Unfortunately, The only mechanical PV I have is a Reo Grand, and I can't seem to get the Penelope on there with the depth of that juice cup. and I don't have any adapters. I do have a regular Ego battery, and while I know that's not a purely mechanical PV, it is a true 3.7 volt device, so PWM shouldn't play a part. I just tried it and it provides an identical vape. I don't have a multimeter, but now I'm considering getting one. The connections I make, however, are pretty solid, so I really doubt it's a connection issue on my part. Also, I've been getting virtually the same vape on every coil I make, I've made about 8 coils so far. Also, I do have a very simple volt meter, the kind that screw into atomizers and devices, and it gives me a solid 3.9 volts on my VW device, but it won't give me a reading on my ego batteries.

I'm vaping Gandalf at 80/20 pg/vg, 24mg strength.

I am wondering how you have crazy vapor and flavor without hit jb. Really strange. This cant be happening:confused:
Penelope is one of the best throat hitters in the market

it happends to me allot whit pretty much any atomizer, first few vapes on the morning are supper strong but as i use it trough the day i feel less and less TH and i still see allot of vapor but less flavor as i get used to it, i have to increase the volts constantly during the day to still feel a decent TH, of course this depends on the e-liquid.

Penelope works or not works jb. So if it produce smoke and flavor then it works. I am still very confused about the hit. I dont really have an answer!
Trust me, I'm equally confused. Cartos on the same device provide a satisfying throat hit, but my Penelope isn't. I thought it might be a bad ground, so I tried wrapping the NR wire around the wick on the negative side, but I have the same results.

Well I'm posting some pics of my coil, which I just cleaned. I put it all back together and I'm using the same juice I am in my carto tanks vaping side by side. The throat hit is much less than the carto tank. Vapor is identical, but flavor is much more pronounced and much cleaner on the Penelope. I'm stumped. I do notice a bit of an airy draw. I'm vaping at about 9 watts. The carto meters out at 4.4 volts and the Penny meters out at 3.78 volts.

well my friend
i just want to say my opinion
and if you can,try it, you don't have nothing to lose:laugh:

first of all use nickelchrome wires for wick atomaizers,i think its better
try to use 34 gauge nickelchrome res wire at 1.5ohms/4.2 volts=11.76watts
or 1,8ohms/4.4volts=11,25watts
or the better way increase your watts for the same coil
and use nickelcrhome res wire
