So you just use that Scotch-Brite pad? Like...a normal one from the kitchen you mean? Any special advice if I want to try that out?

Yea just a regular scotch brite but the brown/maroon one as it's medium grit. Put the tube in the scotch brite and then make a fist around the whole thing. Put your thumb or finger in the end of the tube and just turn the tube. You can open your fist and look to see if the finish is were you want it to be. If not, close your fist and rotate it a little more. It really doesn't take much, few turns is enough.

On a side note you can remove the brushed finish and restore original finish quite easily. The brushing doesn't leave anything deep that can't be easily polished back out with a dremel. I did an extra SS lid first to see how easy it would be to polish it back out and 2 minutes of work with a dremel had it back to original finish.
