Simply put, I need something strong I can take on the go. I don't want any "finiky" buttons or draw timer. I need to be able to slip it in my pocket(in a smallish case) and not worry about banging it around or hitting it on anything. Is there anything out there that compares? The price on this thing is crazy, however I'm leaning toward saying screw it, it's worth every penny. Just looking for some inputs so maybe I can find something with a smaller price tag that will suit my needs.

thanks

None of these are made in Greece or let you in the GG fan club but..

The Prodigy V3.1
The prodigy is an old standby with a locking button all mechanical and you can drive over it with a car definately more pocket friendly than a fully extended 18650 GG or 18650 anything.

Closer to the price of the GG is the precise...with a fan club all their own
Super T Manufacturing, Innovative manufacturer of electronic cigarette products.

Empire mod....offers multi-battery configurations...good luck getting a hold of one though..they sell out fast
The Empire MOD

For a $53 dollar beater mod that's about as pretty as I am there is the Zeus. I think its side button is "inspired" by the GG.
Aluminum Zeus Mod [AlumZeus] - $52.50 : Zen Cart!, The Art of E-commerce

oh and the Don
THE MEGALODON

also the GG stealth
which is just the bottom part of a GGTS (literally), uses an 18350 battery but much more pocket friendly (hence the stealthiness of it). You can join the GG fan club with this one.
GG Brass Stealth USA Only

there are some others but you could probably throw all of those off a two story building with a battery in it and vape with it once you picked it up (probably break your atomizer though)

edit:
Edit to respond to your edit, yea the Reo is all mechanical...I didn't list it because form factor wise its different than the GGTS.

I own the Reo and the GGTS w/UFSv2 and stealth cap for mini mode along with many other mods and if you want reliable, mechanical, and tuff there are many options other than the GG.I'm really too paranoid to take my GG anywhere because I fear I will damage or lose it,so it's my at home vape device. My Reo Grand is my out and about mod and my Vmod XL which are both mechanical. My Reo makes me sad when I look at it because it's so beat up from being dropped probably 50+ times on concrete and asphalt. It makes me happy too because not once has it not vaped after a drop or other accident so I can highly recommend it.

+1 on the Reo for an out and about mod. No dripping, very solid mod. I sold my mini and do miss it. Just got an altoids mod for myself - the caged mods are a nice device at a nice price if you want a vv on the go.** Editing to add would still get an SSGTS if I could :)

The GG is nicely done, but overdone. A 3.7v mod requires 4 parts; battery, battery holder, switch, and connection. There is no need for it to have 20 parts.
To be honest, when I'm out and about where things are going to take a beating, I take the opposite approach and use a little box mod that only cost me about $5 to make, and I could care less if it gets beat up, lost, stolen or broken.

I like the Megaladon as it is all mechanical, is able to handle a variety of batteries, has a locking button, and it doesn't break the bank. Just my two cents.

+1 on Megalodon... Besides what Cren said next best feature of the Don is the mini Don feature for stealth which when I use my Don is how I typically set it up...
