40 bucks at Harbor Freight...shop around and you can probably find it for 30. It's plenty strong enough to do what you want and has good features like a SS tank and auto timer. Stay on the safe side and only use mild cleaning solutions like Dawn dishwashing liquid. Find or make a tray to keep the parts away from each other while they are in the cleaner....otherwise they'll rub against each other and the results are not good.

I will be using simple solutions and nothing crazy. Water + dish detergent for my GGTS parts. I don't know if that would harm it at all. I tried to find a PM para sent me awhile back with what he prefers but it's hidden in the layers of layers of PM's.
In his earlier post in this thread he says dawn dish soap. I have a question though, when using a ultrasonic cleaner does the cleanign process move things around a lot, I am just trying to imagine what type of rack I would need, Do the parts still need to be free moving or can they be held in place? I guess I dont know to much about it so if anyone does can you help?

Nope they don't move the items you place in it. But if you're worried they might scratch each other in it which I doubt so, you can place each item leaving abit of gap in between. Just clean my UFS with it yesterday and let it dry and wipe it with a microfiber cloth dry. Hope it helps.

Rack

Something like this that will suspend the items in the tank and with posts you can "hang" each item. I spray down the rack with Plasti spray paint....the kind that's rubbery when it dries. You can use the pic and make one from a coat hanger.....

I use old film cannisters for 35mm film to hold small parts. If you've got a camera store in town; just go by and ask them for a handful. Nobody uses 35mm anymore so they toss them. Those are good when you have to parts that are frozen and need to use a penetrating spray to break the parts free from each other. Instead of soaking for several days the ultrasonic does the job in a half hour.

Do we remove the o rings from the GGTS parts or let them get clean as well inside the ultrasonic cleaner?
Do heavily tarnished nickel parts cone out shiny clean? How long does it take fir this to happen?

Thanks,

Chris

Not sure how others do it but for me I just unscrew everything and drop it into the ultrasonic without taking out the o-rings. I don't think ultrasonic will make tarnished nickel come out shiny. I usually do it 3 rounds changing the water after each.

i still need to reread what the consensus is regarding ideal cloths and best polish before i order any more products. so the best i can hope for at the moment is to just "clean" both of my ggts's. polishing will have to wait. For the record, there's no tarnish on my Nickel GGTS.

My ultrasonic cleaner arrived today. i'll keep you guys posted.
I just need to buy some Dawn.

There has to be a solution that is light enough but that can get the tarnish off when put in the ultrasonic cleaner. Isn't that the units job? To make tarnished jewelry sparkle after being through a cycle in it. Curious.

My Nickel GGTS gets wicked tarnished after a week. Using mothers takes for ever unless I rub very hard and I don't want to rub off the nickel.

No, it's not. It's a CLEANING machine. However, feel free to experiment with any chemical you believe will accomplish your goal

Sorry if my question is lame.

Right on the advertisement for the unit it states that it "polishes" tarnished jewelry. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'll try mine when it arrives today.

Aren't there water soluble products that when you dip a tarnished sterling fork into it it comes out shiny? Or is this just made for tv BS that I see on late night advertisements?

Thanks.

I suppose it depends on what "polish" means...
Here's the same adapter....one before it went into the cleaner and another after. Some would call that polished, but in fact it's just clean.

paralex What ultrasonic cleaner do you use. Will the cheaper 30w cleaners do such a thing? If yes, what is your process of how to use one. =) Your restorative skills really amaze me.
