Well after 5 months of happy vaping, but the sickest winter I can ever recall I'm out of here. Been in the hospital for a week because of vaping according to 3 different doctors. Seems that something in the liquid is now digesting right and was holding in my intestinal infection and stomach which in return caused my ulcers to flare up and so much ........ that it took me out. 2 out of the 3 doctors told me that I wasn't the first person they had seen this happen to and that if they where me they would stop vaping and take another drug (chantex) to stop. Been on it before and with the nightmares that's not happening. the 3rd said he use to vape and went back to smoking that from a doctor tells me something right there. So for now I'll just have the occasional smoke.
Thanks for all the help over the last 5 months that everybody's put out there.

One of the doctors went back to smoking and that tells you something? What does it tell you? He went back to smoking......He failed his "quit".
Surely you cant believe he went back to smoking because he thinks vaping is worse than smoking?

The other doctor is going to push Chantix because due to "standards of care", he has too!

I believe your problem is not DUE to vaping. It is due to quitting smoking. Smoking masked your symptoms for a long time. Quit smoking = symptoms rear their ugly head.

There's no way we can say for sure what happened till we get more details from OP. I tend to agree that smoking would be the absolute worst option. There are nicotine inhalers that use small cartridges, but no vapor. I'm very curious as to the actual cause, and if it is a specific complications with intestinal issues or ulcers that exacerbated the issue.

Really sorry to hear that you've had to go through a rough patch health wise Mitch. Hate to hear that it could be vaping related but I'm sure there will be ill effects for some. I think we all like to believe that it as safe as breathing air but sadly that just can't possibly be true. Vaping is a reduced risk alternative to smoking. Reduced risk does not mean "no risk".

Wish you luck and hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for all the help over the last 5 months that everybody's put out there.

A way to truly show your appreciation for "all the help" you've received from the owner, mods and members benefiting you would be to give a whole lot more detail than you have. I'm sorry to hear of your ailments and hope you're well on your way to recovery.

Edit: I have a long history of chronic gastritis (similar to ulcers but involving the entire stomach lining) inherited in my family genes. Some get headaches, some palpitations and some, like myself, get acid drip from stimulants including the body's own adrenalin. I've taken Prilosec almost since the day it came out which has greatly improved my life. Two things were the absolute worst for me. One was stress (adrenalin) and the other was smoking too much or drinking too much coffee. I kicked caffeine but never was able to decrease my nicotine consumption until I could get the enjoyment smoking gave me without the level of nicotine in an equal amount of smokes. IMHO its not vaping that caused your problem but the amount of nicotine you got doing it. But, that's just from an experientially educated vaper and not a doctor. However, if my doctor blamed vaping and didn't think it out, based of course on the meager details you've given, I would get myself another one.... especially if they "went back to smoking" instead of weaning off high nic by vaping. I can't imagine any gastroenterologist not thinking that way. Let me put it this way. My mother was a heavy smoker. She died with 1/4 of her stomach left as the treatment in her day (pre-prilosec which stops the pump) was removal of the ulcerated parts of the lining. If she were alive today, I would try to get her started vaping and lowering nic that way.

I'm in agreement with Db13berry. There are many underlying conditions that don't appear until we change for the better. Most people don't realize they have asthma until they quit smoking. They figure that wheeze was from smoking, nope, it's from an underlying condition. Ulcers can be caused by smoking as well which lead to more stomach problems.

Why should it be cause by vaping for 5 months when God forbid it be caused by years, if not decades, of smoking prior to vaping.

i find it odd that doctors so freely recommend Chantix considering that:

"Some people have had changes in behavior, hostility, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal thoughts or actions while using CHANTIX to help them quit smoking. Some people had these symptoms when they began taking CHANTIX, and others developed them after several weeks of treatment or after stopping CHANTIX. If you, your family, or caregiver notice agitation, hostility, depression, or changes in behavior, thinking, or mood that are not typical for you, or you develop suicidal thoughts or actions, anxiety, panic, aggression, anger, mania, abnormal sensations, hallucinations, paranoia, or confusion, stop taking CHANTIX and call your doctor right away. Also tell your doctor about any history of depression or other mental health problems before taking CHANTIX, as these symptoms may worsen while taking CHANTIX."

the above taken directly from Chantix's website. it's like playing russian roulette with your sanity. anyway, sorry to hear that you have ta go back to tobacco. though i gotta say it's strange that your system, as sensitive as it seems to be, can tolerate all the ingredients in cigarettes but can't take vaping.

but keep in mind that doctors used to promote cigarette smoking back in the day; so they're not "all-knowing" when it comes to health. this is a serious situation for you. get as many professional opinion's as possible so you can make an informed decision that's best for you and not act too rashly.

I can't believe 3 physicians wouldn't even try to identify what that "something" is.

This just doesn't pass the smell test to me folks. I bet if any of us go to a doc and with an ailment they can't immediately identify and we tell them we are vapors... well, gee... I wonder what they'll blame?

Pardon my cynicism regarding the medical community.

Glad you're ok Mitch! :)

Curious if it is Ulcerative colitis? (Ulcerative colitis tends to flare immensely in smokers who quit and to decrease with a return to smoking) or peptic ulcer disease which is also caused by smoking?....and in general any Nicotine intake will make your stomach produce more acid and can create many gastric issues.

His signature said that he quit for 170 days, so it seems unlikely that these are quit symptoms. I'm of the "It can't be as bad as smoking" school of thought, but I can imagine that vaping would be bad for some.

Not digesting properly? Really? Does it even get "digested" as such, when it's only in our mouths and not our stomachs?

If I were you, I'd stay far away from Chantix. An ER doc all but ordered me to stop it immediately, after it landed me in the hospital with chest pains. He said he'd been seeing a lot of Chantix nastiness.

I guess it does work for some people. Maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones who use it to kick cigs with no trouble. Good luck to you.

The chemicals from smoking can take a year to fully leave the body.....And Mitch has been sick all winter.

Cigarettes contain VG, PG, nicotine and flavorings (the same as eliquid) plus thousands of other stuff. Sure vaping isn't "good" for anyone, but its NOT as bad as smoking!

Im going to leave this thread now and go vape me some high nic. Every time doctors and vaping comes up I get hot under the collar!.

Feel better Mitch!!

Huh? Landed in the hospital due to GI problems but not one MD connected even one dot between quitting smoking and the known matter of some people developing Chron's disease, IBS or ulcerative colitis when they quit smoking? This happens to some unfortunate folks who never even looked at an e-cig, let alone used one. Vaping has nothing to do with it when that happens.

Be careful with the chantix. I was on it and it made me profusely vomit EVERY time I took it. It was the WORST experience I've Ever had! If you start vomiting, it is likely due to the chantix. I'm tending to wonder if the doctors aren't just using vaping as a scapegoat here. If you would have told them you smoked, then likely they would have said smoking was the cause. Whatever the cause, I'm sorry you are so ill. I ended up in the hospital myself with terrible ........ a few months back. (Before I vaped) they never could really pinpoint the cause after many tests and seeing a gastrointestinal doctor. I had it for one month. It left as mysterious as it came. I find it hard to see where the corolation between vaping and your illness comes in and sometimes think doctors are to quick to blame things that could possibly not even be related. That's just my opinion. With that said, I do hope you get well soon and feel better. Take care and Be careful with that chantix.
