Greetings from a complete noob,

I can't tell you how happy I was to stumble across this forum. I've wanted to try vaping for a while now after trying a friends. But after looking at seemingly thousands of sites and local stores with their sales puffery (no pun intended), I was becoming more confused than educated. I now know I'm in the right place. I can see that I have a lot of reading and learning to do. I had no idea there was so much to learn on the subject of ecigs. I'm very anxious to get started and hope that you all won't mind some of my silly questions. Think I have the general drift, but I want to "drill down" more before making my first purchase. I'm tired of waking up with a hacking cough and also VERY tired of the high prices of cigs down here in FL. I'm hoping to learn and save some serious bucks.
Thanks so much for hosting this very informative forum. From what I've read so far, everyone is so friendly and helpful..... that's great!!!
I'm looking forward to getting educated and making that first purchase.
Horton aka Matt (I'm used to forums where you DON'T use your real name for security reasons -- wish I could change now)

Welcome to the ECF. There are quite a few Floridians here. They have meetups atleast once every 4-6 weeks. Depends on where in FL you are located. Bradenton has a Totally Wicked store, I do believe. Here is a link for the group.

I haven't made a meetup as of yet-I am closer to Jax and the meets are usually more South.

Thanks for all the quick replies. I will take the advice given and get reading. I did notice quite a few Floridians on the board as I looked around last night, and I thought it was the sun that made everyone wrinkled....lol. That's great. I'd love to get involved with a group. Think that would help my learning curve greatly. I'm in Port Richey and I was not able to find any stores other than a few what I'm going to assume (I know, don't assume) are rip offs at local flea markets. Here today, gone tomorrow. But now I have a fantastic source to get all of my questions answered.
Thanks again for such a warm welcome....... Horton aka Matt

So much to read, so little time. Again, I thank everyone who has replied for their advice and encouragement. I am very anxious to get going, but do want to do my research first. There is so much information here it's hard to know where to jump in, but I'm slowly figuring my way around.
I've never been on a forum that is so friendly and helpful. What a pleasure compared to others I've been on.
Back to reading, but I did want to offer my gratitude again for the warm welcome and all the info.

Just finished reading DonDaBoomVape's 6 part tome. What can I say? Fantastic? Super informative? I could fill a page with descriptive adjectives. With a combination of hard facts and great humor, he answered so many questions I had in a very readable manner. Thank you so much for taking the time to educate a noob like me. You have piqued my interest even more. Must be something in the air in FL that creates great authors.
I plan on re-reading it again and probably again and also hitting the links mentioned. Absolutely wonderful..... Thank you once again. I may have a little eye strain, but I sure feel much more confident having taken the time to read the article. Now I really can't wait to get that first order placed. I'll probably be standing out by the mailbox waiting for the postman every day once I've placed an order.....lol.

Re the OP:

Horton, I'll go you one further. If I hadn't found this forum or one like it, I would NEVER have bought an e-cig!

Not because I wasn't aware, but because I had no interest in buying something of suspect utility. Without some idea of what model to try, how to use, etc., it just wasn't worth it.

Whoever started this place and the many who have contributed have done a service to their fellow humans.

I could not agree with you more, Nobodyatall. I too was "floundering", doing searches and trying to educate myself. But, all I generally found were very expensive sites that offered no education about e-cigs. Based on the number of very similar sites (maybe I should say identical sites), I gather there must be some affiliate programs out there and all they want is your order and payment. I emailed a few of them and got either no reply or a terse answer telling me to search the web. Well, it's their loss. I did search more and found E-Cig. Too bad for those site owners who wouldn't even take the time to answer some very basic questions. Finding E-Cig was like finding a gold mine!!
Like you, I was not about to spend my limited resources (disabled = fixed income) on some site that right from the gitgo showed me no customer service or support. We would probably still be paying outrageous prices for cartons of cigs when there is another world out there with a product that I feel is truly better.
My confidence level has greatly increased after spending a good part of yesterday reading on this forum. I'm by no means done reading, and doubt I ever will be. At least now I'll be able to formulate a "game plan" and hopefully will actually understand what I'm doing.
Your last sentence sums it up for me..... there truly are caring, helpful peeps out there (E-Cig) who are willing to invest their time and money to help others learn about this most fascinating alternative to analogs. I thank them again and hopefully will be able in the future to better help support the site. Having a site of my own, I know it is not cheap to operate a huge site like this. It takes a great commitment of time and money.
Have you already invested in product yet? I'd be curious to know what you opted to use.
Thanks for your comments....... Horton

Hi Horton! I'm glad you found Don's reference materials a good read, he covered things very thoroughly!

Honestly to start I used to recommend the $35 510 no box kit from Cignot.com and I still stand by Cignot.com as a great site to get started but many folks now seem to like the newer eGo/Tornado a bit better since battery life is so greatly improved. Next step up from that would be the F16/Hello which is a larger battery version of the eGo/Tornado.

Good luck and hope to see you at a FL meet soon :)

Yes indeed. After poking around here for a couple weeks and studying the words of real life e-cig users, I opted for a version of the eGo. That was mainly for battery life and performance.

I'm pretty darned happy too! My sense of smell and taste have improved, vision as well. It's Good(TM).

Thanks for the info, Nobodyatall. I'm hoping to order today if I can get everything organized in my head. I want to make sure I don't forget an important component.

I'm glad to hear that you are happy with your choice. I'm looking at the eGo right now. It sure will be nice to get rid of that "smoker smell" and the morning hacking session....lol.

I appreciate your input....... Regards..... Horton
