I've only been vaping for under two months and it took me a few weeks to ditch the analogs but that was mainly because I didn't have the right hardware.

I was addicted to much more than just the nicotine and had some physical withdrawal symptoms but having nicotine helped, the act of vaping while not a 1:1 replacement for smoking was similar enough that it helped as well. I also think that being able to control my dosage as I went was also important, when I felt the need to smoke I vaped until I no longer desired to smoke. In the past my biggest hurdle to quitting was that little voice(urge) in the back of my head that would tell me I needed to smoke and continue to get louder until I did, with vaping that voice was there but it never got that loud.

After I had gone a couple days without a smoke I decided to have one but it tasted nasty and wasn't enjoyable at all, I got halfway through it and thought "why am I doing this" so I put it out. Every time I think about smoking I remember how horrible that last one was and vape instead, I'm really starting to think that I have that monkey off my back.

Good luck and welcome to ECF.

Helps because it offers both a physical and psychological alternative that is very similar.

It would seem that for lack of a better terminolgy that getting the monkey off your back is one of the hardest things to do.

By that i mean that feeling that you want a smoke when your happy when your sad , when you just finished eating , when you wake up and so on.
many people when they go to vaping and they encounter their first problem it can get to them and there it is another monkey making you look back at the smokes.
The amount of people that it has helped clearly show that it does but be mindful not to get easily discouraged , it is easy to get into your in the right place and just read and read and don't get to overwhelmed with the amount of products out there just try to pick one or more that frequently come up as recommended by many people.

Welcome newtonsamson :)

I went from smoking to straight up vaping. No in between. My last cigarette (they call them analogs here) was at 9pm before I went to bed. When I woke up the next morning I went straight for the vape. It worked for me.

As for quitting "other things", you might want to tackle the first monster first. I couldn't have quit analogs and the "other stuff" too at the same time. I'm a recovering addict, but you can read more about it in my profile.

Take care, and let us know how you're doing.

If that was in reference to my post I was simply talking about the other chemicals in tobacco that I was addicted to. Glad to hear that you're in recovery, not trying to make light of that.

I quit smoking from day 1 but i think that's because i wanted to stop more than anything. The kit i had back then was garbage to what's available today so in theory should be much easier to make the switch.

Before i stopped, i purchased the starter kit and left it to the side. I said to myself that i would start fresh in the morning, so the night before i went to bed, i threw the remaining cigs i had down the toilet! Been vaping ever since!

I used to be a HEAVY smoker on Marlboro reds (50+ a day) & if i can do it, anyone can do it - you have to want to & it has improved my life in many aspects > breathing > stamina > taste have all improved significantly as well as my social life & i'm sure many would agree.

My only problem now is finding a partner that's in to vaping like me :D

Hi newtonsamson, welcome to ECF, you are in the right place. I was a heavy smoker, 2+ packs a day for more than 20 years. I have tried different methods of quitting over the years, but honestly I wasn't committed. My boss, who is a heavy smoker as well came to work with gas station cigalikes one day and it helped him cut back on his smoking. I tried these and they were not strong enough for me. I decided to order the Kanger EVOD starter kit in hopes of cutting my analog consumption in half. On day 1 with the EVOD, I only smoked 3 analogs, and more so because I thought I wanted to more than I needed to. A couple days later, I was down to 2 analogs a day. After about a week, I decided to replace my morning analog with the EVOD. It worked and I haven't touched an analog in almost a week. I know I dont have a long term success story for you, but it was easy to put down the analogs while vaping. I have no desire to pick them up at this time, and hopefully it will remain that way. I also live in a household where my wife is using analogs. Even with her smoking in the house, I am not tempted to light up. I think you will be very happy with the results if you give it a try. Good luck and again, welcome to ECF.

Oh geesh, I am so sorry. I feel like slapping my head now. Head/slap.

Anyway, good luck!

Hello and welcome, my story amazes me lol. I saw someone vaping when I was at a social function, he was out with us smokers. Now, I smoked 30+ superkings a day for nearly 40 years, and had tried everything to stop and I mean everything but nothing really worked. Yes I stayed off the cigarettes for a few weeks or even sometimes for a few months. But every single day was a white knuckle ride, by that I mean that I still had that monkey on my shoulder saying in my ear "you really, really want a real cigarette" and eventually I would think oh I'll just have one and that would put me right back to square one and I'd be smoking again.

Anyway I chatted to my friend who was out vaping and (as I knew he had smoked 50 a day) he recommended the Vamo v5. So when I got home I ordered it straight away.

While I waited for it to arrive I looked up vaping on line and tried to learn more about it. I saw a vidio on YouTube that said the technique for vaping is a bit different than smoking a cigarette so when my Vamo v5 arrived and I had it all charged up. I tried it and nearly choked myselft to death lol so I used some 0% nic e-juice for a few days until I was sure I had the technique just right. I was still smoking as usual during this time.

Then one afternoon I thought, right - time to try it with some nicotine e-juice. I had a cigarette with a cup of tea at 3pm then thought ok let's see how long I can go without one.

And I started vaping !

I have not had and even more amazing not wanted a stinky stick cigarette since. Bingo! The monkey is dead, I am free and I LOVE vaping.:p:p

And, I forgot to add:

Vaping is delicious! So many yummy flavors. I don't even get why I even started with those harsh Marlboro Reds 22 years ago. I never thought that vaping would satisfy everything from a harsh analog to a creamy brulee. Just try some different 10ml in all different types of flavors and you'll understand!

No worries, I probably could have been more clear in my post. Also thanks and good luck to you as well, according to your banner we quit around the same time.

I think the success stories in this thread and many others like it should demonstrate to the OP that while vaping won't do all the work for you it has helped many people quit, some of whom never thought they would be able to quit. I know that I was basically resigned to smoke until I died, most likely an early death related to smoking. That may sound dramatic but I honestly believe that vaping has given me a new lease on life.

Glad you are here. I was 2 packs a day for 20+ years. I tried everything. The patches came close but never made it more than a few weeks. Then my wife suggested I try the cigalikes at the drugstore. That worked. But it wasn't saving much money. And with my nerves I know I will always need that release. So I let it become a hobby and I haven't had a smoke since. Over 2 and a half years now. And I feel better and my wife is happy.
