Glass vs plastic tanks. What's the difference?

Was looking around for some extra EVOD tanks. Found the Smoktech ARO Pyrex eGo BCC. http://www.myvaporstore.com/Smoktech_ARO_Pyrex_Glass_eGo_BCC_p/smok-arop.htm Not a big price difference and I don’t mind spending an extra buck or two a tank if I am getting something out of it.
Now wondering what the difference is between plastic and glass tanks.
Thinking glass would be more delicate?
Why use glass over plastic or plastic over glass?
Does one last longer?
Is there any effect on taste?
Will the ARO tank use same coil as my EVOD’s? (like to keep simple and only stock 1 type of coil)

Thanks for any replies. Great forum. 1 month in today. Down to 2 analogs a day now. (Was a 2 pack a day smoker) hope to be down to ZERO next week.

Yep, with glass you don't have to worry if your cinnamon juice is going to eat away at the plastic and add the residue to your juice. You also don't have to worry about glass becoming brittle and cracking because of the same juice.

Plastic tanks really should be treated as throwaways and used for short periods.

What they said... and a crisper, cleaner flavor. Also, I don't like the thought of plastics having any kind of exchange with my liquids. Like Bisphenol A, which basically is what polycarbonate is made of. I'm puzzled as to why people seem to care more about tanks cracking than what might get into their liquids.

I won't go into a long rant about the use of polycarbonate for storing anything meant for human consumption. There's tons of information about it out there already. I might be paranoid, but I prefer not having to worry or think about it at all. Hence, only glass tanks for this guy.

Glass tanks are fragile where the plastic ones are somewhat more durable. Both types have their strengths.

It's the thickness of the glass that counts as well as the type of glass that's used. Pyrex is tough stuff and it's thick. My Original Protank has survived numerous drops as it rolled out of the car onto concrete. The SS got scratched, but the Pyrex survived just fine, even if it hit at an angle where the atomizer caused the cap on my Provari to dislodge. All I had to do was flip it upside down on a wooden surface and bang the heel of my hand on the Provari tube to reseat the end cap that's held in by a slotted o-ring.

Then again, there's cheap plastic that bends with light pressure and there's thicker polycarbonate plastic. If you can press it in easily with a thumb and forefinger, look around at others before buying.

Both types do have their redeeming qualities. If you are going fishing or hunting, you might want to take the cheaper mod with a plastic tank just in case. :) That's eGo territory. It's hard to find a Provari that slipped out of a pocket on a four wheeler ride across miles of rough ground.

Even if you are worried more about cracking then about the health issues, a quality piece will be more durable then a cheap anything. The glass on a Protank would crack from a fall faster then the glass on an IBTanked, or Phiniac cartotank would. The plastic on a cheap, $2, generic clearo will crack before a Protank would though. You get what you pay for, generally speaking. With proper care and barring falls, glass will last longer then plastic would. Eventually, all liquids can eat away at plastic I imagine, save for perhaps the medical grade plastics. I think that plastic is call polypropolene as opposed to polycarbonate? I may have my poly's mixed up. I like the look, feel, and taste of glass much better, so I just stick to that.

Anyone using glass tanks and worried about them cracking when dropped, you can buy online/B&M's rubber rings to go around them to help protect them. I just go to the hardware store and buy cheap O rings. I don't care what they look like they are cheap and do the trick.
Hell, I don't care what I look like, I ain't running for office. :)

Been using the same plastic carto tanks for almost 3 years. I have never had one crack or craze simply because I don't use those flavors that crack plastic tanks.

So it's no different than anything else ............ it all depends on how they are used.

I don't know about that. By the looks of your avatar you've got a plastic tank on fire and melting, better check that out. :)

Thread: Glass vs plastic tanks. What's the difference?

Breakage vs Melting - Due to harsh flavorings

Also, for me, for some reason the Glass tanks seem to vape better over the long run. I believe this may be due to Glass providing better heat sinking and reducing e-liquid caramelizing. just my thoughts.

i am of the opinion that once the juice is mixed it poses no threat to plastic tanks.
the ingredients in e juice are used in plastic containers all the time.
not in pure form, but after processing there should be no problem.
cracked plastic tanks are caused by damage.ever drop your set up?
it may appear to have been unscathed but could have a hair line crack.
especially under the metal sleeve where you screw in your drip tip.
i have had 2 break right there with no apparent indication of a problem.
leakage or otherwise.took a good hit and the next time i picked it up
the sleeve and drip tip where gone.
i have used clove in a lot of my mixes with no problem.
what i think is happening is certain mixtures of flavors,pg,vg etc seep through
really small cracks more readily than other flavors.

mike
