1. Just read that they are only going to allow
tobacco flavors with the new regulations, you have to be kidding me!
That's not true, yasmin. In fact, there have been some politicians directly critical of the FDA proposal for
not including this.
As far as the petition is concerned, I don't think it does any harm to sign it. At the same time, I don't think it's likely to do any good either. I get a little frustrated when petitions like this are put together without giving it more than a couple of minutes of thought. The most glaring problem with the petition is that it asks the President to "veto" the proposal. The
only thing that a President can veto is a bill passed by Congress--in a
sense the petition is moot because there is nothing to veto. I thought it was odd, too, given the substance of the petition that "health" was overlooked as a keyword. These are just basic things that shouldn't have slipped
through the cracks.
Please do not misinterpret me--this is very serious, and people should be very concerned and diligent to stand up for their rights and beliefs. At the same time, I wish people would be just a bit more careful and think before writing these kinds of "gut reaction" petitions. To be honest, it would be much more effective to contact your senators and the representative for your congressional district--these people
need your vote to keep their jobs. (The irony of me saying this is that Puerto Rico has no representation in the Senate, and we have one
non-voting delegate in the House.)
Anyhow, I'm not trying to start any controversy here. As I said, I don't think there's any harm in signing the petition.
I hope everyone is having a nice day.
