Wow Uncle great photos....I am another who doesn't decorate as much.....now I make a tree with garland and tack it to the wall and hand ornaments off if it....only about 25 special ones that I have....Also about a week before I set up Graceland on a class table and use that as my "tree"...
Here is one from a couple years back....

I've been feeling the same way about the Christmas season, the last few years, this year especially, it has to do with not having any money to spend. This year is really bad because of being off work for so long. I should be looking at all my blessings because somehow I've managed to keep the rent paid, the lights and heat on and keep my car. I really don't know how that all has happened so I'm going to take that as my Christmas present, everyone else will just have to understand.

That is something to be thankful for JPF....It has been a hard year for you....
I see that many of you are feeling the same way as I am about the whole thing.....it's just not what it used to be....and I don't like what it has become with all of the commercialism...so the best way to rebel...IMHO is not to participate like the rest of them......This last year they only put up a tree in the mailroom and skipped the rest of the building....I am thankful of that as it looked like someone took decorations from all the residents old homes and put them up around here....

Robin I'll agree with you. I remember years ago when you didn't hear or see advertising or decorations for Christmas till the Black Friday ads came in the Thanksgiving newspaper. This year I saw a Christmas commercial before Halloween!
So with that I'll say Happy Thanksgiving, I know I have a lot to be Thankful For!

Just an FYI: First, IMO - FEELING Bad because "You" don''t have money to spend on presents . . . WELL - That Is Just WRONG . . . AND - If "everyone" has a problem with that - "TUFF" . . . :censored: :censored: :censored: Once again - IMO - "You" & "Wifey" Don't NEED them in your life . . . Just Sayin' . . .

BTW: That is just one of the reasons why "My" friends and I usually wait until after the holidays if we choose to exchange any purchased gifts, especially those of "Us" who didn't have a lot of money to spend . . . More importantly, "We" decided that "We're" just happy to be with each other another year celebrating "Our" Friendships with each other during the holidays (Especially since a majority of "Us" already lost a number of friends even before "We" reached an age when were old enough too :( ) . . . :D

Matter of fact, as another FYI . . . The best gifts I ever received and remember to this day have absolutely nothing to do with what amount of money was spent - but that I was at least thought of . . . AND - One of them was something I truly appreciated ever year, especially now that they no longer are sent . . . "My" eldest sister (who was not a baker at all ) use to make homemade cookies (all different kinds) and Chex Mix Snacks that were sent in a special container (that I save and reused for storing "Stuff" - one I use as a sewing box that I still have today) . . . Well - One Year, when I lived in NYC, the Post office lost the package only to find it 3 months later and delivered it finally at the end of March . . . The best part was everything was still fresh as the day it was shipped, because she wrapped each and every single cookie individually in plastic wrap and had sealed the box so well . . . YES - I did eat them all . . . Just Sayin' . . . ;)
(AND - I still wish she sent them, but she stopped over 10 years ago . . . :()

This last year they only put up a tree in the mailroom and skipped the rest of the building....I am thankful of that as it looked like someone took decorations from all the residents old homes and put them up around here....

Oh - I SO FEEL YOUR PAIN . . . I only wish they would do the same thing here . . . BUT NO - The Management company actually holds a Christmas Decorating competition every year . . . AND - I really don't want to tell what horrific garbage is used around here . . . BTW: I am not talking about the "Charlie Brown" or the "goudie" outrageous decorations and lights that are absolutely beautiful to see at night, but the disgusting refuse dragged out of people's apartments and put on display . . . (Worse thing is some of these people actually also decorate the areas outside of their apartments with the same type of "stuff' all year) . . .

3. Well it is definitely Monday! My son just called to say that he got in a crash with another car...yes, he's just fine and so are they, but the car is not! Now he has no way to get back to college next week! I told him to call his father and see if he can help him get the car home as I have no way to do it...I don't know what we'll do now...just seems like we can never get a break! Something is always going wrong! Ok, sorry for the pity party there...I'm just frustrated! :glare:

Uncle maybe I wasn't clear. I'm the one who enjoyed "buying" Stuff ! I've always liked sharing my good fortune with the people that mattered the most to me. The last few years I haven't been able to do that as much as I used to. It's not that people expect it, it is that I expected, and wanted to do it.

4. I'm definitely glad no one was hurt either...he was able to get the car to his friends house, but he's going to have to get his dad to come help him with it...I just love how whenever something happens, they automatically call me...never their father...especially when it's something that I know nothing about or can't do anything about...they never think to call him until I tell them to! I'm beginning to think they just like to stress me out and see how much gray hair they can create!

Count, I'm in for skipping to the New Year too, but I'll skip the hangover part! I will however go ahead and have a drink or two! :D

Jpf - I know exactly what you mean...I was the same way when I was out of work around Christmastime and I couldn't afford to do anything...I felt bad because I couldn't do that much for my kids or anyone else, even though they all understood and didn't expect anything, it was hard for me to not be able to give them things...however just being all together was the best present any of us could have had!

Nope - I think I did understand and I would totally agree that it is more enjoyable to share "Good Fortune" with those "You" can, especially when it is unexpected . . . AND - While "You" may feel bad about not being able to do the same this year (or even if it should happen in the future) I see no reason why "You" should, especially now given the financial situation "Your" Family has been going through . . . Particularly since - "You" SIR - have so much more that is valuable to offer to the people around you then something that cost money to give . . .

Which is "YOU" ! ! ! :D

Matter of fact, a case in point to emphasize what I mean, I honestly didn't have money for years to give gifts to those I wanted to share with and when I did have money, it seemed it was never enough to "Me" either - so I always felt bad about that . . . Until I learned a very valuable lesson that "My" True Friends and Family didn't care - nor really wanted anything that I could purchase . . . But honestly, all they wanted as a gift was to just have "Me" around them . . . AND - Now with so many Friends gone (BTW: I stop counting the Friends and acquaintances I lost back in the late 70's early 80's when it reached 170 people - which shouldn't have happened given that I was only in "My" mid - late 20's . . . So - Now being in "My" 60's and more recently with the number of best friends I have lost - knowing what takes priority during the holidays really hits home . . . ) I don't feel bad any longer when I don't have the money to spend, I only feel bad when I can't get out there to share that special time and what I can with the people I care about any longer . . . Just Sayin' . . .

My wife and I chose to not exchange gift with each other for Christmas about 10 years ago. It just doesn't make sense to us. We buy what we want, when we want (if the budget permits) so why waste the money? I give her a nice card and a smooch and she does the same for me. We buy gifts for her grandmother, parents, and our goddaughter, and that's about it.

5. Angel, I'm sorry to hear about your son getting in an accident. Thank goodness he's ok. I hear ya about one thing after another happening, same here. If it wasn't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all it seems sometimes. ((HUGS))

I rarely drink, I used to be a big drinker in my younger days. Now, 2 or 3 wine coolers and I'm toast. I've been feeling like I need a great big bottle of something here lately, but I feel like crap when I drink so I'm just dealing. I need to take a vacation to Colorado, I hear they have stuff that would relieve some of this stress  Joking ;)

We quit exchanging gifts with the extended family years ago. This year I'm only buying for my daughter and grand kids. Son probably won't be around and he has 3 kids I have to buy for so that's his present.
