I'm going on a cruise to the Bahamas in a few months. It's the second time I've been on one but the first was years ago. I was wondering if anyone has had issues with Carnival and/or the Port out of Jacksonville giving you problems with bringing vape gear on board. I'm not a heavy builder so I was planning on bringing 2 box mods, 2 tanks, charger, 4 extra batteries plus juice. It's a 4 day cruise so I can probably get away with leaving the chargers and batteries at home and just using the mods to charge them internally.

Other question is can you vape on board? I got an aft-facing balcony so I was thinking it wouldn't be an issue since the smell wouldn't be going across the whole boat. I know you can vape in designated smoking areas but sometimes I don't want to go all over the boat just to take a few puffs.

Probably best to call or email them specific questions but here is their general policy. You can see they mention vaporizers and e cigs in with smoking. Allowed in some areas and prohibited inside the room and on balcony...

Best guess is treat the entire vessel as a hotel. I would talk to the nearest steward/ship rep. if in doubt about vaping in a certain area(s).
Liquids Rule
Pack Safe – Electronic cigarettes, vaping devices
Travel and Vaping - How to take ecig through security?

Well if you can vape in designated areas you have to be able to bring it with you. If they van it in rooms and balconies then you'll have to make the call of whether or not you want to stealth vape it. As for smell it's not like cigarettes so you won't hear from neighboring cabins that they smell cigarettes. At least from you.

That's what my thought process was. When I was on the ship the first time as a smoker it got really annoying to go up 6-8 decks just to smoke a single cigarette before bed. I figured if I got a balcony room at least I could spend my evenings enjoying the ocean and not annoy anyone with the nasty smell of cigarette smoke that would make them complain. Who's going to complain when they smell cinnabon at 2am when you walk on your balcony? I figure I'll talk to the people around me and/or wait until someone complains then adjust fire from there. I don't have an issue going up to the designated area but it would just be much more relaxing if I could just hang out on my balcony.

I am going on a cruise this week yeah!! Carnival cruise out of Texas. I went on one 2 years ago as a vapor. They did not give me any problems about bringing my vape gear on board. They treat it the same as smoking, so you are only allowed to vape in designated smoking areas. On Canival ships that means there is a smoking section on one of the tops decks and in the casino. I also vape a little in my cabin, but you are not supposed to.

I’ve found on RC that they are pretty cool about it and I imagine Carnival will be the same. They really hate to say no or correct passengers on wrong doings. The other passengers may complain and then the crew has to react.

The casino is a god awful place to vape but convenient if the weather outside is windy or rainy. Just be prepared to smell like an ashtray. On some of RC’s bigger ships they have half smoking/half non-smoking casinos.

In the casino and in smoking areas be respectful of other smokers. You blow huge clouds up in the air and they look at you like an alien has just landed in front of them. They do this even though the fake Cuban cigars they just got in port smell like s*** and the cigarettes aren’t very pleasant either. I try to find a place near the rail and watch which way the wind blows.

As far as vaping on balconies I would be overly cautious. Keep it to stealth or minimum. You don’t want to incur a $500 fine or worse be removed from the ship. When you are removed from the ship at the port or next port you come to, you are responsible for the expense of flying home and it is the end of your vacation. At night there are a lot of lights on the ship and vapor clouds can be spotted easily. For me this is true in the day time as well. I can spot a vapor from a long ways away.

When checking in I put my box mods in a backpack or something I plan on carrying on. The rest of your luggage is put outside of your room door and it may be several hours before it arrives there. Your carry on goes through a scanner so take the batteries out and have them in a protective plastic case. A couple of bottles of juice to keep you going until you get set up in your cabin. This will allow you to go up to the decks that have smoking areas and enjoy vaping until your cabin is ready.

I don’t recommend vaping in your cabin. It seems to hang in the cabin quite a bit. Ask the person that is taking care of your cabin for a couple of shower caps. They fit nicely over the center smoke detector in your room. The only issue with that is that you need to remember to take it down before bed or anytime your cabin is going to be unoccupied. Again, I don’t recommend doing that or vaping in the cabin at all but I have done it.

I went on two cruises and vaped happily out on my room balcony both times. I tried to be discreet to avoid annoying the neighbors, but I only vape at 12-14 watts so I didn't have huge clouds to contend with. You should be fine.

Most cruise lines treat vaping as cigarettes. Nobody will question vape gear any more than a pack of cigs.
Some cruise lines allow vaping in cabins, Carnival not one of them. I believe Princess does permit cabin vaping but not balcony.
You might wonder why some lines allow cabin vaping and not balcony.
Because the company does not want to hear whining from others who might see you.

Thanks for all the helpful information!! I didn't even think about bringing a Juul or a small pod system for use as a stealth vape. Probably going to bring my normal box and a pod system now instead of 2 box mods and 2 tanks. Now I get to play with salt nic, always been curious but never had a reason to switch from freebase.

I'm not planning on clouding up the cabin but rather just relaxing on the balcony and having a vape. I checked my room and I am on the aft facing balcony with only 1 person beside me so I'm on the starboard/port side of the rear of the ship. That should help with neighbors complaining or anything like that.

If you go mtl or pod I can't see you having much of a problem. And before buying in to the high nic salt stuff, try your regular in a pod or mtl tank. You might be surprised to find its just fine. When I tried 35 mg salt in a pod compared to my 6 mg dl I thought I would cough up a lung. Put my regular stuff in and it's fine. If I need to stay stealth with very little opportunity to even do that a 12 mg nic juice will hold me over for quite a while.

Just having this convo with a friend about pods and nic salts. He uses free base nic in a VG base. He wants to go to a pod type system at work. Did the 12mg give you much of a pepper note or overly strong throat hit? Much difference between 6mg and 12mg for you in a pod?

I noticed more throat hit. But I don't really like throat hit so I may be an overly sensitive judge of that. I prefer a milder vape.

Carnival had always been pretty respectful of smokers and non-smokers alike. When I took a cruise back in 2007, their rules were the basically the same as today (except that vaping wasn’t around then): the casino, night clubs, and half the pool deck allowed smoking. Everywhere else was smoke-free and for good reason: preventing fires.

The problem is that they have jumped on the anti-vaping bandwagon like several states and many localities have: only allowing vaping where smoking is allowed.
