Hello folks,
Just joined the forum and been researching for several days here. Great forum!
Little background on myself:
I am 47 and been smoking one to two packs Marlboro a day for about 27 years or so.
I have PADS (peripheral artery disease) which means that my arteries are clogged going to my legs. I can walk just fine for real short distance but anything more and legs give out or cramp real bad. Already had stints--one for each leg. Clogged again now---can only do stints a certain number of times, so I really need to quit smoking.
The nicotine is the cause and I realize that vapin is using nicotine. So, I plan to start out strong mg nicotine and slowly go to low dosage.
The main thing for me is to put down the analogs--if I can accomplish that--I think I can lower or stop the nicotine all together.

So, I am gonna try vapin. So far I have decided to get the 901 long Lightvapor from secondson2929.

I plan on getting liquid from Totally Wicked at 36mg to start. I think I will try the marlboro flavor. Open to suggestions here--would love to move to sweet flavor later like banana or something---just figure the marlboro will help with the cravings etc.
May cut it down with glycerin and flavors when I find some info on how to do and where to get the stuff. Just have to do some testing.
Little worried I won't like a flavor as they have no sample packs to try. So, any feedback on flavors would help.

I did cut back the analogs to only 2-5 a day using the Chantix. I think I may use Chantix along with vapin when my supplies arrive to help get started.

If you have any suggestions, tips, etc. would love to hear from ya'll.

Thanks,
Glenn

I can offer no advice except keep at it! I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you find that your health improves as a result. Welcome to the forum, by the way. I'm new here too, but people here are pretty helpful, informative, and supportive and I like it.

I managed to quit analogs almost as soon as I started vaping, but I was only smoking 8-10 cigarettes a day. I do 6 mg, so it looks like you're on the ball (though someone else who smoked as much as you did could offer better insight).

Good luck! My wife and I just made the move this past week, and its been a struggle (though I think that is more due to bad equipment than anything -- tough to not go light an analog when all of your batteries are dead or wont charge!) -- but even just cutting from 2 packs a day each to a pack between the two of us has made a lot of the health and breathing issues go away. I'm a firefighter and the extra windroom in my lungs has been amazing already.

Thanks, good thing you only smoked that many. Way to go.

Good luck to you. I smoked 1 to 1 1/2 packs a day for 26 years. Got myself a dse 901 and haven't looked back. Can honestly say i don't even miss the analogs.

k

Thank you, hope I don't miss em either.

Dang, that is good to cut down that much and that quick. Could use the windroom myself--LOL. maybe no more huffing and puffing so quick. Good thing your wife came along with you or you with her to vapin.

Glad you made it here, it may greatly improve your health. I am a little older and had a heart attack, I think from the drying agents used in the Swisher Sweets I have been smoking the last few years. Doc said that a clot from my legs got into my heart valve so no stints or surgery but I also have the beginings of PADs.

I got an Npro starter kit and have no desire to smoke an analog as long as my stuff works. Tried everything to quit before but never made it more then a day without failure. I think the 36 might be kind of strong so pick up some glycerin from Hobby Lobby to cut it with. When you get dizzy you are vaping to high a strength. 18 seemed Ok to me at first but was using 3 or more carts a day but I love the taste of the liquid. I made my own from RY4 liquid and added glycerin and some Loranns flavors. It is strange that it taste like a smooth pipe tobacco but smells like cotton candy and now my truck and car have that same smell instead of cigarette stink. Good luck and keep at it.

I think you made an excellent choice in going with secondson's mod especially considering your smoking history. I use the Screwdiver but I'm in line for the same PV (personal vaporizer) that you are getting.

Taste's are very subjective but here is what I like and why. I find puresmokers' liquid to have a little more flavor. My favorites (along with many members) are Riskee and Cola. (24mg) The Riskee is kind-of a carmel/vanilla/tobacco flavor. The cola matches it's name.

I've tried about 6 different supplier's juice and couldn't find a tobacco flavor I liked because many were too harsh. Then I tried EastMall.net's Kent flavor and really like it because it has a tobacco flavor but is smooth.

Anyway, welcome and good luck!:)

I would never in a million years have expected to be able to 'stop' smoking with vaping but I did on the first day....I have had the odd tobacco cigarette over the last four months but more out of curiosity than out of need.....the worst thing is having problems with the equipment that can really make me feel a desire for just having a nice simple smoke.

Try vaping without that chantix stuff first - you'll be amazed I'm sure of it!!

I have smoked for 24 years, a pack a day. I didn't quit the first day I tried my DSE901, but slowly started to cut down till no analogs at all - None since Sunday (LOL)

I wasn't really trying to quit either, I bought my first e-cig because I was flying international and I HATE using the patch or any of that other junk.

I love the fruity flavours, I got off the "tobacco' flavors really fast, and haven't used that in a month or more.

WebNetIncome, I'm another one with PAD, also in both legs, so of course we share a pretty similar experience and reason for using ecigs. But I've got just over ten years on you, and had smoked for 44 years, with a few ultimately unsuccessful quit periods interspersed. Was always at least a pack and a half a day smoker, sometimes closer to two.

But what I really wanted to talk with you about is that my Vascular Surgeon was absolutely delighted when I showed him my ecig. My understanding from him (and some research too) is that while nicotine does have cardiovascular effects, the truly bad thing in terms of atherosclerosis and PAD is nicotine combined with carbon monoxide and the other toxic products of combustion that we get from smoking cigarettes. I urge you to check with your doctor on this as well, but I am pretty happy with how I've been doing since last October, still using nicotine liquid but not smoking cigarettes at all.

So of course I heartily support your plan of cutting down on the nicotine, but I suspect your doctor too might prefer you to get your nicotine with an ecig rather than from smoking, if it were a choice between the two. In other words, don't let nicotine cravings drive you back to cigarettes!

Dang beginnings of PADS--it not only effects your legs, but makes you tired in general in short period of time, especially working, yardwork. Hope symtoms decrease since you are vapin now.
I never make it more than a day myself. Our story sounds similiar.
Glad you mentioned getting glycerin at hobby lobby. Where do I get the Loranns flavors?---you are second person who has said that to me.

I think you made an excellent choice in going with secondson's mod especially considering your smoking history. I use the Screwdiver but I'm in line for the same PV (personal vaporizer) that you are getting.

Thanks for the review of flavors. May give puresmokers liquid a shot also. I am considering a sample pack to test what I may like because I have absolutely no idea--$30 is fine with me at TW---but not so much if I don't like it.
After researching here for hours and days---I realize I could go cheaper to start---but I want something that has been given excellent ratings and last as long as my usage. I am sure it will not be the only one I get if vapin is something I like or it helps me--then will get a collection--:D

Dang! On the first day! I will be happy to quit analogs even if it takes longer----but miracles do happen and I assure you, it will take one for me to quit with in first week---:)

Try vaping without that chantix stuff first - you'll be amazed I'm sure of it!!

Thanks, I will give it a go without the Chantix first--I just got the prescription---Will put it on the shelf unless needed.
Great you quit the analogs. Now for International flying---are you vapin while flying? I take short trips flying and want a cigarette bad---little nervous flying until at altitude. Have to have several drinks-- Would love to be able to take longer flights--but I think I would go crazy without a cig.
The fruity flavors also is something I want to end up using for smell and taste.

Chantix= The devil be careful
I assume you are referring to some of the bad side effects that are mentioned. Believe it or not---not much for me--have tried it couple of times---Now, I will say that my good dreams are very vivid--(if you know what i mean) :rolleyes:and the bad ones are really strange--you wake up going "what the hell was that about"---

Thanks folks,
Glenn

Hi,
I smoked a pack a day for 40 years, and have tried everything. I started vaping 10 days ago. I think alot of what worked about vaping for me was I could continue the smoking-like habit part of having something to do with my hands, & fuss around with!

I started out with 36 mg and vaped my head off the first few days, I wish I'd have started with 24 mg or even 18 mg and used 36 mg when I wanted that extra kick. Now I have ordered some lower strengths, so I can vape more. I'm not a flavor person, but I really love the Creme Bruele 24 mg, I got at Myvaporstore it's not too sweet and not overly flavored, it has a wonderful mellow flavor, I really enjoy it.

Best wishes to you. Believe me, if I can do it, you can do it. I never thought I could, but I feel great after only 10 days (only smoked 3 analogs in 10 days, two when battery went out and one last Sunday to see if I missed them, I didn't!) Also, in recent years I've begun coughing in the morning, and I was frankly fed up with feeling crappy. So vaping was just the thing for me. My cough is almost gone now.

I have also found that the support on the forum is wonderful, that has made a huge difference for me too. Just knowing that there are others who have this in common is very supportive and reassuring, so Congrats to you and best wishes.

Hobby Lobby also carries the Lorann's flavors in the same section as the glycerin. It is Wilton brand 2.00 for a two ounce bottle, I also like their butter and almond extract as flavor enhancers. The almond goes good with many things and gives some flavors a candy like taste while the butter just smooths out some flavors. They have a limited selection of flavors of Loranns, but try the English Toffee if they carry that, I have to pick up some more myself this weekend. They also have some bottles with droppers that handily fit the Wilton's bottles to for mixing in another section.

I do brief periods of hard work, usually with a few breathers and some coughing in between. Without the breaks I would surely pass out from oxygen depletion. I had a real tough crank today using all my strength and weight I worked at it for a few minutes and stopped for my breather. After five or six deep breaths, I was ready to go again, no coughing and spitting. My lungs will hold at least twice the air that they did only a few weeks ago and things don't go pink when I get winded.

Bad news is that N-Joy dropped the ball replacing my dead atty and I had to buy a pack of smokes today, I am not happy about that. I went ahead and ordered a Janty Dura-C with two complete PV's so this should never happen again. I had been almost two full days without anything, so I did try. It's sad after three weeks smoke free, but I will be waiting on the mailman tomorrow.

IMO you should start out with at most 18mg juice. You will prolly be vaping more than you realize and especially since you are having clotting issues, you should start lower as opposed to higher. Give it a try. I was smoking 40+ a day and am now using a low juice and a medium juice(mostly the low). Please for your own sake don't start out with such a high blend.

Lorann's flavorings has a website: https://www.lorannoils.com/c-6-super-strength-flavors-candy-oils.aspx

I would get a bottle of the 36, but also something a lot lower - use the lower strength liquids for most of your vaping, and spike with the 36 when you have an intense craving.... You can cut it later if you wish with the VG and lorann's.

Welcome to the family!

I Vaped most in the bathrooms, but at night in the plane when they turned the lights off, it was pretty easy to cover the LED and vape in my seat - in one direction on the longer flights I had someone next to me, going in the other direction nobody next to me so it was SUPER easy :D

It was really AMAZING to me to be able to take that BIG ol puff and relax, I hate flying but do so every few years (I fly to Africa) I swear I even slept better on the plane after vaping just a few good puffs...

Hey mate,

It’s good to know that you have decided to take on vaping. Believe me I know how hard quitting is but with electronic cigarettes it helped me along the way. Just seeing the vapor has some psychological effects on me and reduces the will to smoke.
Thanks. Great to hear about seeing the vapor. I was hoping it will have the same effects on me.

yvilla, thanks for the words of wisdom. They actually sound good to me and I hope the doc too. Since you mentioned vascular surgeon, I am assuming you have stents also?
A little off topic here, but, have you studied "chelation" yet? They make some great claims. I am still considering trying it---it is not covered by most insurance---but may keep you from having to get stents again in future. Of course, you have to find a doctor who practices alternative medicine (one versed in chelation). I mentioned it to my regular physician and he went ballastic about the whole thing. Doesn't believe in it at all. The reason for my consideration is that I have talked with several people who swear by it. I actually have not considered alternative medicine in the past, but as I get older, I will consider all options.
My view is that most any medical and pharmicuticals (spelling probably not right on that one) all seem to claim to "treat or control" problems and not "cure" much. Now, I know that statement is loaded and I may get blasted for it--but just the way I feel. Anyway , thanks again. Chat more about PADS with ya later.

Sounds to me like you are doing great for 40 years smoking and now vaping. I too have the coughing and feeling crappy. Just no energy to get stuff done. I used to be going at something all the time.
I recently had a heart scan that showed 20-30% blockage, but doc not too worried yet about that. Problem was this heart scan showed something in my chest that caused concern. Before leaving the doc's office as he was walking out the door, he turned and said that " you should really consider quitting smoking, this scan is to check for cancer".
Talk about getting my attention-- 8-o
So, back to get a chest scan. After forever (um, only several days), the scan turned out to be OK---:)

Thanks for the info on Lorann's flavors at Hobby Lobby. I guess I need to do a little reading up on mixing of liquids. Have now read about many mixing but have not yet read about how to do it , how much , etc. I will get to reading more.
I surely understand the statement about "breif periods of hard work with breathers and coughing in between". Sounds just like me. But maybe I will clear up some like you have. Sounds excellent!
Don't want to end up with dead atty or anything--I will surely order some replacement stuff too.
Thanks again,
Glenn
