I read your post, posted the battery links, and then went right over to your blogs to see about the LG HB2's. Hadn't seen your latest on these batteries.
Now I need to update all my "canned" posts so that I have everything right.
So now there are 3 batteries that are considered 30A CDR? Sony VTC4, LG HB2 & LG HB6?
The VTC4 is really a 20A battery that can be pushed relatively safely to 30A. Everyone pretty well considers them 30A cells though. The HB6 and HB2 are true 30A batteries that run relatively cool all the way to 30A and relatively safely to 40A.

There is no way I would be able to post all the links that I do with having them all in a database of some kind. Plus, it's very handy for me when I'm searching for something.
I also keep track of all my purchases, all the juice/flavorings I have (or am considering buying), all the recipes I may wish to try, etc. etc. etc.
You get the picture. A "holdover" from my working days as a Packaging Engineer.
How safe are they at 40? I really make an effort to never extend past 30A even on a VTC5 where I know it will be safe.
Safety is a very relative term here because using these batteries at anywhere near their rating would be considered unsafe by the battery manufacturers or their corporate commercial/industrial customers. But, having said that, the HB6 runs cooler at 40A than the VTC5 does at 25A.
The VTC5 is really a 20A battery that gets very hot at "only" 25A. I do not recommend running it much beyond 20A. I know the VTC5 has a great reputation, but at 20A the 25R runs several degrees cooler and lasts a bit longer too.

How much current are you drawing?
If at 30A or less you can get less of a voltage drop with VTC4's or HD2's. They run hotter though than the HB6.

If you're running single-cell mods then HB6's are about the only cells that are even remotely safe to use with a 0.1 ohm mech build. If dual-cell mods then you could use VTC4's for more time before recharging, mech or regulated.
Glad you've found your sweet spot! If single-cell the batteries will almost instantly be at 3.2V-3.4V, and drop from there, at those current levels though. Dual-cell HB6's will start you off at 3.6V-3.7V before dropping.
With the insane low drop on the Praxis I'm hitting at around 3.5. Also I'm a brand name enthusiast when it comes to batteries. I'm going to trust LG, Sony, etc over anything else. I just wouldbratger put my money in a real company when it comes to advanced chemical engineering
