To be honest, the machine I am building at the moment uses an electrically charged electrolyte. And the distance between the tool and the workpiece cannot be seen, so we use a meter to detect contact, then back off 0.005mm...


So because of the electrolytic reaction, we do get some odd readings when the tool is not touching....;)
