I spent 1 1/2 hours at the doctor's office today, 5 minutes with the doctor, 3 minutes with a nurse and the rest of the time waiting, and waiting, and waiting...

When I finally saw the doc, told her I quit after 30 years of smoking. She looked at me like I had won the lottery. Then, I clarified. I'm still doing nic with e-cigarette, but no smoke. I asked her did she know what an e-cig was. She nodded confidently. And surprisingly, she still had that big grin like "one more life saved!" Her job was done.

Couple of good signs I noticed here: 1. the doctor was well aware of e-cigs, speaks to its prevalence, 2. She regarded vaping as QUITTING SMOKING, did not mention the possible harm of PG/VG, nic, no frawns, no shaking finger. If fact, her words were "you're on the right path."

Just one doc's reaction, in just one little town, from just a guy. :)

Edit: And thanks everyone for the 'likes'.

My doctor didn't see it quite the same way. Same as you, 30 year habit, mine was about a PAD. She was 'concerned because I still have the hand to mouth habit' - I pointed out that at least it wasn't food to mouth.

Yea, she's an idiot, but I knew it before that visit.

Sorry to hear that. So what, it's cold turkey or else according to her? My doc specifically mentioned e-cig was good because it preserved the "hand to mouth" habit, thus a more effective way to quit. Maybe she's on it too.

Yes, at least it's not food to mouth, or foot to mouth, worse yet, "foot and mouth" disease!

My Doc was thrilled that I had quit smoking. I think she even used the same line -"You're on the right path"- about the fact that I was still using nic. She didn't seem to know much about e cigs but was very interested. I told her about this forum and gave her a card from Smokeless Image (the only one I had). I'm really hoping she will do her own research and help spread the word.

Great news, but we only read about stuff like that in here, but this is what makes it to the media: Electronic Cigarettes, what's really in them?

Edit: Just discovered that Gweyn Cheser is actually a political activist and works in the quit smoking area, being a former smoker herself. Sounds like Big Tobacco and Big Pharma just paid for another news story.

That's what was so surprising to me. I thought I'd show off to my doc the knowledge gained here, but never got a chance. Apparently, she's one of those progressive ones who think nic alone is much better off than the rest of the stuff in smoke. If you listen to the anti-smoking mob, carbon monoxide and tar always lead the "killer" list. No smoke, no such things. For once, someone is supportive...didn't even receive the same encouragement from my mom.
