Plus you can check the resistance with the evic which would cost another 25$ for a meter.

I can just buy a ITaste VV 3.0 for 25 bucks and it has a meter built in! (this is why I wanted to get the VV 3.0 instead of just an e-go twist).

Innokin iTaste VV (V3) Express kit - 101 Vape

I use 32 gauge kanthal and EVOD heads and now the VV 3.0 to check the resistance on the heads.

What does this meter measure, and why is it nice to have?

Coils can cost between 2 and 5 bucks a piece usually and are very simple to rebuild yourself with a little investment (Kanthal, a torch lighter, ect.) which should cost like 10 bucks total. You can build your own coils or microcoils (or nano if you want) and the meter checks the resistance... When you buy heads that say they are 2.5 or 2.0 or 1.8 ohms they are never that accurate, when you build your own you can make sure they are exactly the resistance you want.

I don't use silica wicks tho... I use organic cotton balls since the EVOD is a bottom coil. The Mini Vivnova I bought aren't tho and they need wicks (i don't like them that much).

Do coils need to be replaced often? I definitely do not plan on building anything myself.

I would go for the iTaste VV v3. It teaches you more, and gets you used to the more advanced options available in case you want to get a permanent mod with removable batteries one day. Plus, it's a passthrough which save me many a time when it was my only device for a while. I don't recommend only one device, as you should always have a backup just in case, but with a passthrough, it isn't the end of the world if you forget to bring a back up. The twists, winders and spinners are not passthroughs as far as I know. Also, I believe that every vapere should at least have an ohm meter. Stock coils don't always come in the resistance that they are labeled as. Without the ohm reader, there would have been several that I would have burned straight off the bat because I thought they were a higher resistance then they really were. Vaping in watts mode can also help you prevent burning out a coil too soon. Coils can sometimes change their resistance slightly over time, and if you have your device set at a certain wattage, the device will adjust itself in accordance with those changes.

You don't have to build coils. I hear that they do taste better that way, but I don't have the time to build them myself. If you want better taste then the stock coils can deliver, and do not want to rebuild them, you can always look into cartotanks. I just got mine a few days ago, and the improved taste has blown me away. I get them from IBTanked.

Personally, I think you need to try a few things out before even considering re-building anything. It is hard enough deciding what to get let alone being bombarded with advanced usage.

Basic questions for new members should be considered before branching off into more expensive items. He/she hasn't even vaped yet. Geez. And don't know what they will or won't like.

go for what you can afford to buy and try to make the switch from cigarettes. After all, that is what is important.

It is all very overwhelming, but I appreciate all of the input from everyone. I have vaped before, and I couldn't tell you anything about the device I used, but I loved it! It looked similar to the one I linked to in my OP - I like the look and feel of those versus some others I've come across while browsing.

Welcome I too am new. 30 + days in. I started with a EGO twist 1100 mAh. Pretty sure it was fake but it worked for about 2 weeks. I also purchased a Itazte VV which I love. I have the one with the passthrough. Good thing I had this one...cant imagine being without it. Lol $29.00 on sale locally. Be careful I'm now understanding how hard it is to find the originals Kits and mods. I'm currently looking to upgrade and hesitate for fear of buying more fakes.
