I took a couple of drags from a paper cig. today. It was awful - really bad. I knew then that I really won't be going back. It made me a bit sad. Smoking was such a big part of my life...my identity... I do love to vape - wouldn't have been able to quit without it!! ...but, no...it's not the same. Taking a drag and finding the nasty awfulness made me realize that my old go to...is gone. Now, I do realize that this old friend was pretty much kicking my ... on a constant basis..."friends" aren't good for you just because you grew up with them....ya? I guess I wanted to write this to folks who understand just how huge it is for a heavy, long time smoker to give up that life. Thanks for listening......

You know, in a way, we still have our friends. The ones who stuck with us and were always there when we needed them. In good times and bad. They're still here. They've just had a nice digital, armored upgrade. And they don't stink so bad anymore, haha.

Now we're talking!

I like this idea a lot -

The OP had me getting a little nostalgic. Until this. Now, I can remind myself that my old friend will never die!

Letting go of old friends, no matter how many bad habits they had, is traumatic. Your new friends are definitely better for you.

Ya. I've dated a couple guys like that. It was hard to break up... but OMG you're so much better off for it!! Later, you wonder why it seemed like such a good idea. Especially when you're currently hooked up with someone soooo much better......

I get it, but from a slightly different viewpoint... I knew I needed to quit (doesn't everyone) but because everyone around me had already done so, I was the "odd man out", and if it weren't for them I'd probably still be smoking analogs. So, since smoking was a huge part of your life/identity, think of it this way... YOU WILL be the relative/friend/acquaintance that inspired the others to quit, and that's a big deal IMO. You'll do just fine.

Ahhh... such a beautiful disaster she was.... we weren't together for as long as many of you but it was a very codependent relationship looking back, if I hadn't wised up to the situation and found a better mate we'd still be together...

I used to share her with friends but now I'm glad to say I don't claim her anymore, she's their headache now, I'm trying to get them to quit her too.
