I was about to reply about the contacts, because i know a rda can act wonky if things are not tightened down or serious hot legs burning juice, then read your post about faulty contacts. As asbestos said, did you try and put it on another mod? I know on my dna if preheat is set too high I do not like, so I usually turn preheat to 20 or so, especially with 430ss. Does it give off a harsh vape? Not sure why its acting like a gooney bird, har har, hope you get it fixed.

I have a minikin v2 it's on power mod TC and preheat maxed out???
TC- temp control. Try the RDA on a different device. If it works correctly, you're getting a pre heat punch from your minikin. I don't have a minikin....Maybe it has a preheat setting in power mode? Preheat just applies extra power for a second or two to make ramp up time a non issue.

Here's a pic of my settings on the Nano. It has the Goon with 3mm ID coils on it.

The only regulated mod I use is the Tesla Nano, in power mode.
Everything else is mech mods :)
Never been a fan of TC, but that's just me :)
That is a nice looking mod kprthevapr. I have a noisy cricket that I use sometimes, I like it but hate that im limited to how low the coil is. I had a stingray clone and subzero 24 shorty setup which the shorty was the best mech ive used. Ever since I got into 430ss with spaced coils, I have gone full blown TC, as i can be a dictator of how much juice to put out with any coil i want. Fogster, I did a quick search of the minikin v2 and do not see anything about preheat on board.

Gplat is ER317L type wire.
One of the main claims to fame is rapid heat/cool cycle characteristics.

The gplat I sent for metallurgy testing came back as;
Iron 61.1%
Chromium 18.2%
Nickel 13.8%
Molybdenum 3.85%
Manganese 2.1%
Silicon .75%
Nitrogen .1%
Phosphorus .045%
Sulfur .03%
Carbon .025%

ER 317L main use is as welding wire.
It isn’t designed to be used as heat resistant steel for heating elements / coils.
It 'shouldn't' release / off gas anything harmful in solid state form.

It is a horrendously overprice common wire type sold as 'magic', 'special', 'sooper wire' to vapers.

To make a WAG, seems reasonable your goon has far better conductivity which is why you notice a difference in rapid heating.
Build higher resistance like .4Ω+ maybe even .7Ω, turn the power down & give it another try.
