For anyone who still thinks the various government agencies have our best interest at heart, please consider this:

After the billions of $$ spent on the Cash for clunkers program and all the political hullabaloo about fuel efficient vehicles, consider this article from Fox news.

WASHINGTON — Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood says he wants to consider taxing motorists based on how many miles they drive rather than how much gasoline they burn — an idea that has angered drivers in some states where it has been proposed.

Gasoline taxes that for nearly half a century have paid for the federal share of highway and bridge construction can no longer be counted on to raise enough money to keep the nation's transportation system moving, LaHood said in an interview with The Associated Press.

It is all about money and power...the various governments that is!:evil:

The fact is that there are simply too many people and they no longer want more and more cars on the roads. They are now determined to tax the poorest people off the road and return to a time when driving a car is the privilege of the rich only. It's too easy to make cars now that even the poor people can afford so they have to do it with taxation. The rich and powerful have had enough of sitting in traffic jams caused by all the peasants.

The last thing they really want is for a motor company to come up with a really cheap, pollution free, electric car or something that anyone can afford. The pollution and lack of fuel is their excuse for taxing us off the roads.

ITA. We have allowed our various government agencies to create an effective royalty in this country and this royalty caters to the wealthy and powerful under the guise of a "nanny" state; ie, various welfare agencies, laws to "protect" us from ourselves, "terroism" threats, etc. All government positions are protected by a "need". If the "need" goes away, the individual or agency must re-create it in order to protect their livelihood. And a sweet little livelihood it is with all the various perks and protections. These lazy folks couldn't make it in the real world, so a government "Position" is vital. This is apparent from the janitor to the Presidency.

I will visit the site....I am sick of it.

IMO, we didn't allow it; it has always been this way. Right from the founding of our new "free" country only white men who owned property had the right to vote. It's been like this all along, we've simply been deceiving ourselves into believing that we are free

The unfortunate truth is even after a revolution, more corruption will follow. The 'new' order would inevitably end up the same way as the old. The problems of government, imho, require a change in social evolution that humanity just can't seem to make it through. Part of that evolution DOESN'T happen because we get worse and worse about educating each generation in ethics (among other things) on the low end (non-college organizations). This further secures the nation of the rich by the rich and for the rich institution that is coming to be the standard for the American Republic.

The auto insurance companies are already charging by the mile here in California. Every year they send you a form to fill out so you can estimate how many miles you will drive that year. The more the miles the more the insurance costs. They get info from the DMV and use that figure and tell you that if you don't respond to their paper, they'll charge you what the DMV said you drove.

So we are being "taxed" by the mile already.

It is true, all the taxes are not going to stop anything that the rich can afford, anymore than cap and trade is going to stop any pollution.

Pretty soon you'll be penalized for having a bbq in your charcoal grill. Mark my words!
