Hello,
I apologize if I should have posted this in the new member forum...

I purchased a Heron v2, and it's basically different from any other rta that I've used. I did a quick forum search and found a build that seems to be a good starting point, but it also led to more questions.

Is there a preferred wicking material for this atomizer? I have always used Japanese cotton, so I want to make sure that won't be an issue.

Also, what is GP Fluff? Should I look into using it? I'm uncertain if that makes any sort of difference for wicking/device performance.

I was going to go with (as I discovered in a thread) 36k/26k single core Clapton wire, 6-wrap @ 2mm. I'm just concerned about the wicking material at this point. I'd really appreciate some input, and any general advice for using the atomizer.. :D

I very much doubt you will get clapton wire under the screws. There isnt a great deal of room between the posts either and the AF is suited to M2L vaping really. It does wick well but whether it will feed well enough for that coil is doubtful in my opinion. Japanese cotton is fine!

Fluff is a filler material that wraps around the chimney and holds the juice in a kind of reservoir above the coil. In the heron, you would basically leave off the deck cap (or topper as some call it), and run an inverted U-wick through the coil such that the ends poke up into tank and rest against (and receive juice from) the filler. You could use the topper with the single hole for this also. You might want to check out some vids on how to do this first maybe. If there aren't any heron tutorials, just check out the spheroid or even the Prometey - technique is pretty much the same.

Thanks for the info. So GP fluff is intended to be used as the wicking material, and not an additional "resevoir material?"

Also, if I should avoid claptons due to size constraints, would you recommend going the route of 28gauge Nichrome or Kanthal?

Nooo!! The fluff is the reservoir!! you then run the wick (cotton or whatever) to contact it and feed the coil!!
6 wraps, 28 kanthal around 2.5 fits well, should be in the 1.4Ω territory as far as I remember!!

check out these reviews from the master The Right Honorable Sir @qorax !!

loads of great ideas!!

I've seen those vids, but they don't elaborate on the fluff. I found a Qorax post with pictures though, so I think I'm set!

fluff is meant to be used with the silica wick. It is just a material (like a sponge) that is placed inside the tank and soaks the ejuice. The silica wick that comes in contact with this is absorbs the juice. If you use cotton there is no need for this just fill the tank and vape.
check this out

Thanks very much for that --- I'm more set than I realized! I had assumed that the fluff was somehow mandatory to prevent leakages.
