I have the GP Paps X (SS, LUX, and Ti) and a Phantom Brass Stingray and I would go with the X every time. I love aluminum bronze, but I would go for the SS over the LUX (I wish the LUX was full aluminum bronze). The Stingray is nice, but dealing with a crunchy button takes away from my vaping experience whereas a Paps just always works for me.

That being said, the 22mm Paps is my absolute favorite mod (I have a LOT of them). As Bad Ninja said, I would choose a GP Paps v4 over everything else as it's hands down the best in my collection.

I own and regularly use both a PAPS X and a PAPS v4. They have different switches but I really wouldn't want to say one is better than the other, They are just different. The X is 23mm which is an issue for some and an advantage for others. Both have the GPin which is very convenient. If you are looking to pull a lot of current through ultra sub-ohm builds, that (GPin) may not be the best setup. The PAPS X is also available in a single tube size option, GP calls it the GP X. If you are only, ever, going to use one size battery that makes more sense.

As time has gone on and I spend more time using regulated mods I have sold off or given away a lot of mechanical mods (10+). Many of them a lot more expensive and a lot more "la de da" than anything GP makes. My PAPS X and my v4 are the only mechs I own and think for 99% of typical vapors they represent to best balance of quality, customer service and performance. GP service is amazing and the owners are accessible on your choice of social media or forums. If you beat the crap put of your mod and it's starting to look shabby, you can send it back to them. They will refinish it, give its the once over twice and send it back to you for less than a few bottles of premium juice.

If I had to choose I would go with the v4. I'd get the silver plated contacts upgrade because I'm lazy and don't keep up my contact maintenance like I should.

After reading this thread I decided to purchase a Paps v4 in 18650 with silver plated contacts. Tomorrow is my 50th birthday so I figured what the heck! I own a paps v3 as well & with a GP heron on top it's a great vape. My v3 is an 18500, so I went to 18650 on the v4 to get more battery life.

After the holidays I may have to buy a v4.
I have the V3 in 18500, and have routinely used the cap with GPin on a brass 18650 20x1 tube at .20 ohms with no problems at all.
They are very well made, and the G Pin isn't an issue within safe limits of a single 18650.
Love the v3 switch. The V4 looks even better.
Wouldn't know about CS or warranty.
Not a lot to go wrong.

At the risk of high jacking the thread, those of you recommending the v4, do you have experience building it down to ~0.5? Curious if it tolerates lower builds well?

The GPin spring is thicker that the switch spring, and the g pin housing is very solid.
As long as you build within the CDR limits of an 18650 I don't foresee any issues.
Your switch should get hot before the GPin spring fails.

So I picked up my first mech of 2016...But it was neither a PAPS or a Stingray. This thread and its replies along with my own personal experience have convinced me to avoid tube mechs for the time being. Do not take that comment the wrong way: I am enamored with tube mechs and always will be. And I am always appreciative of all of your comments and suggestions. I truly wanted to experience the classy fit, finish and customer service of GP. A week ago it was either a v4 or an Xti. Two days ago it was another ODv2, only this time in black oxide copper. But I simply could not get over the rapid voltage drop and battery sag associated with single cells driven hard. So I went the other way. I went with a triple parallel Tres Equis LE.
