Further adventures in the wilderness,
far from civilization and stores that have, you know, stuff...

I found this under my kitchen sink...

green_scratchy.1.1.jpg
green_scratchy.1.2.jpg

... and i've been vaping on it for a day and a half or so,
and it's been the best stuff i've found so far,
me being unable to just go out to the hardware or pet store.
It absorbs my thick gooey VG mix really well,
and makes happy clouds of vapor but
then i'm just innocently reading along in the forum and someone says

"DONT! use the green pads" cause they have abrasives in them.

In capital letters, like that.8-o

Should i be frightened and stop using it right now? That would bum me,
but not as much as the irony of dying from little green abrasive particles in my lungs
instead of cigarette tar.

I used the green pads for quite a long time before switching over to the blue pads.

There are some green pads without abrasives. There are some green pads with a LOT of abrasives.

But.. based on what I've been able to glean from my friends at 3M, the abrasives aren't metallic (at least on their pads). They are (probably) mineral.

Yeah, that was probably me. I posted a cart mod (RSP mod) that originally used a green scrubbie. After some research, we found that the Scotch Brite Heavy Duty (green) pad had metal abrasives embedded in them, per the Scotch site. So, we switched to the Scotch Brite Non-Scratch (blue) pads. They work just as well and don't have the abrasives.

You can also try the facial scrubbie, called a "Buff Puff" or the generic version from Walgeen's.

I stand corrected ScottBee, I hadn't heard of the greenies as filler. Hummm, works better than the blue foam? Now that I look, maybe not if you switched.

Storm,

I don't use the blue FOAM... I use the blue PADS. I changed to the blue pads from the green pads.

But I don't use them as a complete filler, I use them as a plug on top of a spring (axial... lengthwise).

I alternate between the blue foam and the green Scotch-brite pad
(and rinse the green pad really well before I start cutting it up).
I use these with the paper clip mod which I think works better than
the straw or the spring.
I am getting 10-11 drops in a 510 round cart and 12-15 in a 510 whistle cart.
Who knew such simple things around the house could work so well....

GL - Keep vaping

If you insist on using the green scrubbie, Scottbee suggested that you should rinse it AFTER cutting & trimming, to remove the loose fibers and abrasives caused by cutting. It's a good precaution. Wish I could convince you to switch to the blue scrubber pads, though. :( They work just as well, cost the same and don't contain the metal abrasives.

This is what I got at Target...

http://www.robotroom.com/PCBTarnishEraser/ScotchBriteNoScratch.jpg

These are the right ones, yes?

When I cut a plug for my 510 cart, the material seemed way too thick and dense to let anything through.

Do i need to cut/tear the pad in half to reduce the thickness? Does the pad have a "grain" to it? Should I install it with the "side" of the pad toward the atty?

I know some of you are using the blue with great success; I just can't envision how any juice can travel through it. When I hold the pad up a light source, I can't really see through it. The pad(unwashed) is approx. 6 mm thick. When I hold a piece of unwashed blue foam(rite-size sleeves) up to the same light, it lets much more light through and I can easily discern detail of objects in the background. With the blue scotchbrite, all I see is tiny pinholes of light shining through. I have to triple-fold the foam sleeve to get the same masking effect.

The scotchbrite just seems way too dense.

What am I doing wrong??:confused::confused:

Well Scottbee is only using it for a plug in the end, but that would indicate that it does in fact wick liquid.

You didn't mention if you actually tried it in your PV.
I can envision things, or not envision them, all day long,
and in either case nothing happens. ;-)

In any case i was only trying this stuff because i'm in a rinky-dink town
and i have to make do with what i can find until i can get to the big city.
At the moment i'm back to the spring mod and ordinary filler
because the pads got little bits inextricably stuck in my atty
even after i trimmed them real careful.
But if you do try it, you could either do like Scottbee did,
or i just cut them to size and stuck them in lengthwise.

The ones i've had aren't quite wide enough to fill the cart,
and so i've had to pull them apart a bit,
which might be how i got the loose bits in there and so
paying close attention might be a way to avoid it.

Do you have blue foam, and find it insufficient?
Because i'm like, all eager to get to a pet store cause
i thought it would solve my last problem.

Hahaha. Totally. Well said. TBH, I didn't actually try it.

I do have the blue foam and have tried a few different mods with it. First I made a small slug. Not big enough so i think it leaked and flooded my atty. No gurgles during a hit, but when I pulled off the battery and cart and blew through the atty a TON of juice came out. Then I tried a doubled-over "V" shape. Results inconclusive. Then I tried the BFD(dart) mod. Leaked. Flooded atty and mouthpiece.

I have not given up on the blue foam, however. I will continue to experiment until I get this right. The most frustrating thing is when I read the fantastic success other vapers have had with a wide array of cart mods, but I can't get one to work to my satisfaction.

PS - Every now and then, I get a great tasting, full-bodied, ample vapor hit. It's these "surprises" that keep me interested in finding a solution.
