At first I thought this was just another FREE ecig offer, but as I read the 'fine print', this is what I found:

Yes, they will send you a Free kit... and no money is involved, but they want you to participate in a survey and be part of a "study"**, beginning in Aug. and lasting for 3 months... with possible compensation for doing so.

Read the "Trial Details" at the bottom of their page for more info!!

https://www.smokingchannel.net/adstore/index/survey/

This is evidently being sponsored by Green Smoke, and the shipping notice I received (within 1 hr. of signing up, I might add) was for this:

1 GSIB-001 GS Intro Kit Blister Absolute tobacco - Full (1.8%)

Personally, I think it's great that an ecig company is doing a study... let's just hope that their motives/intentions are good!! ;-)

** "A randomized double blind placebo controlled study to investigate the safety of Popular Nicotine Delivery Device in healthy adult volunteers."

From the first page:

We are looking for cigarette smokers over the age of 18 to participate in a research trial. We need between 1,000 and 10,000 applicants. Candidates will be selected from a pool of qualified applicants.

Any applicant who smokes cigarettes and is over the age of 18 will receive a free gift (value $49)+ just for qualifying for the trials, to qualify simply fill out the survey below.

Certain individuals will be selected to receive a follow up questionnaire via email, each application will be reviewed by a team, and nominated persons will be notified of acceptance via email.

The way I read this and the study description, the free gift is simply for those who sign up to be considered for the study. Screening process to follow.

One thing I noticed, though, in the study description:
The goal is to investigate the ability of an alternate method Nicotine Delivery Device loaded with low dose nicotine to induce long-term smoking reduction/abstinence in smokers unwilling to quit. The study will monitor smoking reduction/abstinence effects, changes in withdrawal symptoms, using initially for 6 weeks 7.4 mg nicotine followed by a further 6 weeks of 5.2 mg nicotine doses. The primary hypothesis is that the alternate method used in a structured protocol is a safe device that allows smoking reduction or abstinence in smokers possibly by suppressing cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

Does this sound familiar to anyone else? Or am I coming to you from another dimension today?

I assume you are talking about the similarity to Dr. Polosa's recent study...
PLOS ONE: EffiCiency and Safety of an eLectronic cigAreTte (ECLAT) as Tobacco Cigarettes Substitute: A Prospective 12-Month Randomized Control Design Study

GroupA (n = 100) received 7.2 mg nicotine cartridges for 12 weeks; GroupB (n = 100), a 6-week 7.2 mg nicotine cartridges followed by a further 6-week 5.4 mg nicotine cartridges; GroupC (n = 100) received no-nicotine cartridges for 12 weeks.

So is the free gift (worth $49+) the Green Smoke Intro Kit?

Looks like both a marketing tactic as well as a study.

But the two types of e-cigs used by Polosa are no longer on the market, and I wasn't aware that Green Smoke products contained the same levels of nicotine as did those used by Polosa.

All Green Smoke products are well overpriced. I have used their products myself and absolutely could not in good faith recommend any of them.

Not quite...

Green Smoke = 7.4 and 5.2
Doctor Polosa = 7.2 and 5.4

Thanks for the reference, DC2. Could be a coincidence, but the study description does sound eerily like Dr. Polosa's study description. The more I think about it, though, I tend to Bill G.'s view, that it's first and foremost a marketing ploy.

That being said, if the allure of getting a free ecig starter kit gets just one or two smokers to switch, then ploy away, Green Smoke! A great many of us here started with cigalikes, so let's not throw out baby with bathwater... or something...

I signed up and got my free sample. The battery is very good. Unfortunately, it asked if I was a menthol smoker which I am, but I HATE menthol vaping. I need to order some cartos to fit because I do not have any that work on this battery. All in all, I think it's a great thing GS is doing since they did not ask for any credit card info as those so-called "free trials" do. I like it.

WARNING! Crotchety skeptic alert... :glare:

Lessee...

https://www.smokingchannel.net/adstore/index/survey/

"Researchers at SIS Resources will be conducting trials in order to better understand tobacco usage amongst Americans."

Crotchety skeptic stops right there. Who/what/where is "SIS Resources"?

Most likely it is this place: SIS International Research - American Marketing Association's Marketing Resource Directory

"SIS International Research is a full-service Market Research & Intelligence firm..."

I do believe their primary concern will be "will you keep buying it" rather than if it is medically important or relevant to buy it.

Oh well, get a free e-cig. Looks like there will be nothing to feel guilty about if you already aren't smoking and you take them up on the freebie.

Skeptic over and out.

[edit] Not to wappity the spacekitty but I didn't see the word "safety" mentioned once on the site.

From what I understand, they are the KR808D-2 threads... not to be confused with the regular 808's (KR808D-1) that everyone is used to seeing from places like Smokeless Image or V4L.

Here is one place I know of that carries them:

KR808D-2 Cartomizers

Please don't make me go back through everything I have from/about them, but I would NEVER have used that word if I hadn't seen it in the horse's mouth... :D

You gots papers? I just sayin' I went through the the on line stuff from beginning to end and "safety" or stuff like it was not mentioned. Besides, how could they measure "safety" in any meaningful way from a phone interview? "...and did our e-cig explode or catch fire during use?" Well, maybe that could be boiled down to a yes/no. lol

I didn't know there were papers involved. Lesse what we get.

I don't recall saying anything about "papers"... and I don't have a pedigree, either... :D
