Welcome! I am new to the site myself. Have been off analogs for 5 months and am just getting in to making my own coils. Yesterday, I broke )shorted out?) 2 coils . I am unsure as to why this happened because I have successfully used one of my coils that I built. Do you have any insight on this?

its a pleasure to meet you chels! thank you. you said you shorted your coils out, did you make sure the hot spots were out? also was it touching any part of your fixture in any way?

It happened right away as I was pulsing it. I don't think it was touching anything but I will be more careful in the future.thanks!

hmm it couldve been a couple things. are u using new wire or gauging? what happend when you were pulsing as you said?

I was using new wire (not sure what you mean about gauging?). While pulsing, there was a popping noise and then I noticed that the coil had broken

hmm yea it sounded like you shorted out. gauging is the size of the wire like a 22 g is a bit smaller and brings more resistance (ohms) i would recommend using the same that youre familiar with. couldve been the way you made it. couldve been to much wattage or holding a pulse for too long. its hard to determine since i didnt witness it im sorry try again if the problem persists get back to me and try to observe as much as possible and ill be more than happy to help! good luck Chels!

How low do you recommend I pulse at?

Hi ChelsB
I believe it is called stealing someone's thread, though I'm sure Josh didn't really mind. However ask your question in your own post here in the beginner's forum and you can expect lots of help with it but it won't be seen much if buried in Josh's intro post.

Sorry guys, I'm new to this. Didn't mean to steal anything
