Hi All, first post here at ECF, though I've been reading the forums for some time.
Thanks for providing such an excellent source of information for those new to the sport.
I've been vaping for about 4 months and have completely eradicated my 20 a day analog habit. I have been using a range of cheap super-mini's with somewhat varied results and have found a few I've been quite happy with. I have recently taken delivery of my first "grown-up" e-cig in the form of a 510 and I'm not sure what to think. Obviously the battery life is improved over the super-minis and the vapor production is greater than anything else I've tried in terms of volume and density, however, I'm finding that when using the same e-juice I'm getting less flavour and throat hit with the 510. The vapor seems cooler and I'm wondering if that might have something to do with it. I've tried direct dripping (as I have always done with the mini's) as well as filling the carts (which are a much better design with less leakage and one of the reasons I decided to try the 510) but I just can't seem to get the same satisfaction.
Apologies for the long first post, but is there anything I should try to improve the 510 experience?
Are lower resistance attys or cartomizers the way to go to heat things up and get some more flavour?

I personally find the LR attys do help quite a bit, but they can't be used on standard 510 batteries. You need a Riva or Ego (fat batt). At least, that's how I understand it, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

That aside, using a juice with higher percentage of PG seems to help, and of course, nic concentration makes a difference as far as TH. Some folks also order juices with extra flavoring added, but I have no actual experience with that.

And, of course, welcome to ECF, glad to have you with us! :)

Nope - that's pretty much spot on. LRs may work with the lower mAh batteries, but it's not recommended and likely wouldn't work for long.

Maybe you'd prefer a 901 atomiser Balistyx. It would mean getting an adapter or a 901 battery, but 901s are generally regarded as being more flavoursome. :)

Huh, more heat and more flavor? I can think of hardware that gives more flavor and less heat, or more heat and less flavor unless your dripping...

Here's a quick experiment with the gear you have. Pull the 510 apart. Set the cart aside and blow out the atty. Put atty back on battery and drip 2 drops of your favorite juice right onto the bridge in that blown out atty. Put lips, lightly, in the atomizer and push the button.

Take a long, slow and gentle, draw into the mouth until your lips get warm, then open your mouth wider and inhale.

Does that get you the heat and flavor you need? If it does, then you may want to consider getting a drip tip and vaping as a dripper.

If it doesn't, well you haven't lost anything except a few moments of your life.

Thanks all for your replies - some good advice there. I tried the experiment recommended by Hoosier and that's certainly closer to the experience I'm accustomed to (still not quite there) - probably because I've always dripped with a blank cart with the super-mini's. I'll grab myself a drip tip and see how I go, though being able to refill carts effectively without leakage into the mouth was one of the reasons I decided to try a 510.

I have both an auto and manual 510 and agree that the manual gives a better result. I'm not really after more heat, just more flavour and throat hit - I just made an assumption (probably incorrectly) that there was a direct relationship between those and heat.

I'll try the drip tip and persevere, maybe try a 901 atty, though I don't think I'll be throwing out my super-mini's just yet - perhaps I just stumbled on to a particularly good one. At around $8 a pop with free shipping from China I regard them as a disposable item, but I've found I get 3-4 weeks from each one before they start to lose effectiveness. Compared with $15 a day I was spending on analogs I've saved enough to start experimenting with more expensive e-cigs.

Hit comes from nicotine and heat
Some other throat sensations come from mint. menthol, cinnamon, ginger, other spices
PG lets through the most hit and irritation of nicotine, most flavor - a small amount of VG (20-30%) can soothe the irritation while leaving good TH and flavor and adding more visible and persistent vapor

Just an update on this: It appears one of the two atomizers I received with my 510 kit was faulty. I tried the second atty and was all but overwhelmed by the flavour. Great TH too. Not sure whether the faulty one can be rescued - I'll have a play with it. Interestingly a second 510 I had on order arrived yesterday and this also had one faulty atty (think I need to change suppliers, but it's hard to come by good ones without exhorbitant shipping charges to Australia). In this case the bridge didn't seem to be carrying the juice into the atomizer coil. To resolve this I tore the bridge out and am using it just for dripping which works fine.
Thanks again everyone for your advice and support.
