Hello All,
First off , this is really a terrific forum. So much information here for the new vaper

My story.. I started smoking around 30 years ago. I am a very heavy smoker . Or should I say I was a very heavy smoker ? I smoked between 2 and 3 packs a day. Around 10 years ago I was able to quit cold turkey. That lasted for around 2 years. I never thought I would go back to smoking but I screwed up and started up again. I tried to quit using the cold turkey method a few times afterward without success.

My next successful quit occurred a couple of years later when I found electronic cigarettes. they were still a very new product in the US. I purchased one from a shop in the mall and I was pretty impressed. I did some online searching and I found a forum dedicated to ecigs ( I believe it was ECF , but I am not sure ). At that time a lot of members were suggesting a device made by Joyetech . It was a 510 with a cartomizer and refillable cartridges . I ordered a couple with 2 bottles of liquid. That little thing was great and I quit again. I used it for 2 months or so. I didn't even go through all my liquid .

Anyway , that quit only lasted 6 months. So, I am trying again. I was gonna dust off my old Joyetechs , but something caught my eye at 7-11. It turned out to be an NJoy tank device. I bought one for $30 and a bottle of liquid. I was shocked that they sold liquid at 7-11. I loved that NJoy the second I tried it. I knew then that I would be able to quit again

I came back to these forums to get advice and I found out that world of vaping has totally changed. Its Crazy !! There are now vaping Stores !! Actual brick and mortar stores that sell this stuff. It came as a very welcome surprise. I have since updated my gear a little. I now have an I taste vv and MVP 20 watt. I have 2 mini Nautilus tanks to go with, and I am very happy. I have not had a cigarette since Feb 2 !

So now my question. I have been going through a ton of juice. I buy a lot of stuff that I wind up not liking , mostly because it is too sweet. So I was thinking about DIY. I watched some videos and it does not seem difficult but I am not sure if I really have the time to mess around with it. The conversion tables etc. So I was thinking about just buying unflavored juice at my nic level and then adding flavors to it. Can I do that ? I am thinking that I could just go to ecigexpress and buy a 120 ml bottle of 12mg strength and then pour it into 10 ml bottles and add some flavors. This way I don't have to worry about conversion charts , etc. Would that work ?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading, this is truly a fantastic place for information

Eric

Welcome to ECF, ericred68! Yes, you could buy the unflavored nic base and add flavors. Many people do just that. However, remember that the flavoring will lower your nic content slightly. You will need to measure the flavoring carefully so you get enough to do the job, but if you get too much it will either be awful or not have much flavor at all. For the best information on DIY get your five posts in and go to the DIY E-Liquid sub-forum. You can ask any questions you might have there and also find out about the best sources for supplies. Vape away!

Welcome Eric!

Technically, you'll lose some nic level when you take your base (12mg) and start adding flavorings. Those will effectively dilute the nic to the extent of the flavoring you add.

Short math example:

To make a 10mL bottle with 20% flavoring (just round numbers here for the sake of me doing math sorta quickly), you need 2mL flavoring and 8mL of nic base. That being said, you would then end up with 8*12mg/mL = 96mg nic now disbursed in 10mL liquid. Your resulting dilution is a 9.6mg/mL juice.

So you won't get exactly your base level when you start adding flavorings. The amount of flavoring to base nic will dictate the final nic strength.

I started making my own juice just for the cost savings. Got a huge bottle of PG from a farm supply store, VG from CVS, and Nic from Wizard Labs. Then, the flavors possibilities are endless. Found myself settling pretty quickly on simple blueberry EDV. I use the "eJuice me up" computer program that tells me the amounts to add for a certain volume...it is really a piece of cake now. For my EDV, I usually use the old VG bottles (177ml ea) to make a batch that lasts me like 6 months or so.
