Hello, everyone.

Almost two months ago, a friend called to say that he and his wife had just discovered e-cigs (With nicotine! Here in Canada!) and after about a week of 'vaping' had become TRUE BELIEVERS. Pretty convincing testimony, it seemed to us. Like me, he had been a >2 pack-a-day smoker since ever, and like my wife, his girl was around the pack-a-day mark.

Now here we all are, and it's been at least six weeks since any of us lit a cigarette. It didn't take any willpower at all, even though my wife and I weren't primed & pumped to quit smoking. It was that simple: tried vaping, figured it might make an acceptable substitute for the real thing, and a couple of days into it were appalled to find how really lousy cigarettes taste. We still have a can and a half of tobacco (more than $100 worth up here in the Great White North) that we'll never use, along with a beautiful chrome plated Top-O-Matic cigarette machine, boxes of tubes, a handful of lighters etc. etc. The only leftovers we're likely to use now are the Ronson butane refills, for annealing Kanthal wire.

From Evods/Esmarts to VV/VW mods and RBAs and homebrewed e-liquids in only seven weeks. Still pinching ourselves.

To paraphrase (i.e. misquote) the Grateful Dead: "…what a short, strange trip it's been…"

Regards,

Surprised the heck out of us how lousy cigarettes taste, and yes we've already spent a ton o' money on e-cig hardware & software (e-juices, flavors, PG, VG, wire, tanks, you name it), but we figure we're still ahead.

The fact is, even if e-cigs cost more than the real McCoy--which they don't, by a long shot--we'd still be ahead of the game. Now if only my battered, barbecued sinuses would clear so I could really TASTE the stuff I'm vaping...:2cool:

After I completely quit cigs and only vaped, I realized that vaping is costing me way more than cigarettes. BUT that's only because I like owning/collecting new gear. It really does become a hobby, which is good because I don't have any others XD. But my girlfriend gets kinda upset when I keep buying new things, bit she's happy that I've been off cigs for 2 months.

It's become a hobby for me too, though not necessarily for the right reasons.

We've already accumulated a fair amount of 'ehh' stuff (tanks that leak, atomizers that burn out/taste lousy, e-liquids that suck, mods that don't perform well, etc.) because the technology is still in its infancy. Throw in the fact that quite a few reviewers' impressions & recommendations aren't based on extended use—the latest & greatest whatnot may drive you nuts after you've lived with it for a few weeks or even days—and I suppose it's inevitable at this stage of the game.

Still, it has been fun. Now I'm off to see if I can round up a roll of the latest & greatest WICKING MATERIAL! Woohoo!
