New Member first post. I quit smoking tobacco cigarettes four or five years ago. I am an avid cigar collector/smoker and over a year ago I got into pipe tobacco. Well, a year later I found myself inhaling pipe smoke daily and it has been really bothering me. I travel a lot and on a business trip that began last weekend I took no tobacco and 8 hours later was in a full blown nicotine fit.

I was almost going to buy cigarettes after over four years and instead bought two disposeable "blu" ecigs. They were "ok" but I was already aware there was more and better available. Three days later I was now home and went into a local smoke shop to see what they had for sale. My choices were Blu, Fuma and Logic. I bought the Logic starter kit. One cartridge of menthol (what I used to smoke) and one "red" cartridge and I was satisfying the nicotine habit and enjoying the lack of being a slave to my dirty pipe tobacco behavior and stowing away in my basement with my laptop.

I started internet research as I dont want to spend a couple needless hundred on the learning curve buying low end products. Today I visited the local mall where there is a vaping kiosk. I got a couple pkgs of cartridges (cigar and coffee) that are compatable with my still one Logic battery. I will say the vape via the Logic is "tinny" and leaves a copper penny taste in my mouth (not good).

Apparenty Im going to be exerimenting with vaping and decided this evening I'm going to sell my pipes and tobacco and get some decent quality vaping products.

As a former moderator of a national cigar site I knew if I found a major forum I would jump some of the learning curve so here I am.

Research so far has me looking at getting a 510 (I think this means slim battery) and also interested in an ego twist (seems like appropriate progression).

My first question seeking help is based on info from reading other threads here.

Are the Joye (?sp) 510 and Ego-c Twist products on FastTech - Gadgets and Electronics authentic or counterfeit? The prices are significantly lower than the rest which makes me ??? the legitimacy.

Any advice is appreciated…thanks ahead of time…Basic Patrick (The Oxymoron)

I would not recommend bargain hunting when shopping for vape gear. The quality coming out of China (where most of this stuff comes from) varies widely. Spending a little more on quality products will save you in the long run. For ego batteries I recommend genuine Joytech Twist or Vision Spinner batteries. These are variable voltage, and you can adjust the vapor to your needs and flavors used.

For juice attachments, anything made by Innokin and Kanger are good. Innokin iClear 16/30 and Kanger Evod/Protank.

Good Starter Setup for a Beginning Vapor

Proper Terminology: Is it a carto, a tank, or what?

The prices are much lower, but it's hit and miss with Fasttech as far as batteries are concerned. Some make it though, some don't. If you look in this very forum you'll find a thread about people who have orderded recently and what happened to their shipment.

As far as starter kits go, this is a fantastic buy. Although more expensive than what you'll find on Fasttech, it's sure to get to your place fast! If it's too expensive, get this one. This is what I started with, and I am still super happy with it, six weeks into vaping. The batteries are not variable voltage, but I assure you, the first few weeks you start vaping, that will not be a concern. The evod clearomizers are super easy to use, to fill and to maintain too. And honestly, these guys will give you the best customer service ever. (I do not work for them at all, I was just impressed with their products and service)

Then you'll need eliquid. And you'll be all set :) Best of luck Basic Patrick, vape on!

Your on the right path in your journey. A variable volt vv is the right choice to start. Baditude gives good advice on spending a bit more to get quality. Once you get comfortable with vaping and find a couple liquids you like, then you will be in a better position to decide on any upgrade that may serve you better.

Yes a basic platform to work with is key. 510 cig-alikes have their place, great for portability and stealth when out and about, the pen size (aka Ego size) also a great platform, can be just as stealthy and a bit more flexibility and vapor time, 510s you have to carry more spares, charger, or portable charging case (PCC) to get a days mileage out of them, and you can use any 510 threaded cartomizer with them. Biggest step after a good vaping starter kit will be liquids you like and proper nicotine strength, nic strength a good guide would be current smoker at 1 1/2 to 2 packs a day 24-36 mg (2.4%-3.6% nic per volume), pack to 1 1/2 pack a day 18-24mg (1.8-2.4%), half pack a day 6-12mg (0.6-1.2%), but that is only a guide doesn't mean you'll be at one of those levels to make it work, you could probably get by chain vaping a lower level if need be to maintain your nic balance. I've seen Logic cig-alikes popping up around where I live recently, haven't tested them out, but don't throw those cartomizers away right away, you can still pop the mouthpiece off and refill them with any juice you like if similiar, same, or same type (ie menthol/mint flavor), and get upwards to about 10 refills on a carto before they drop drastically in performance do to getting gunked up with clearer and thinner liquids, thicker, darker, and sweeter liquids this figure could be less.

Pen style kit that I would recommend would be this here

Not a bad price and very customizable for that price, suggest 2 of the Vision Spinners as they are 1300 milli-amp hours and VV like the Twist, and with some things going on with Joyetech lately, Vision Spinners are more readily available, then the lists of choice of 2 attachments gives room for experimentation, as it offers both top coil and bottom coil designs, I generally suggest one Innokin iClear16 and 1 Kanger Evod or T3/MT3, lets you experience what a warmer top coil and cooler bottom coil perform like, and the coil heads on each are replaceable and readily available in 5 packs from a lot of vendors. Find a coil setup you like in a clearomizer, gives you a direction to look for other similar devices you can move to, or get more of the same device. The kit gives you everything but the juice to get going and a nice vendor here in the states if you live here to deal with.

Liquids, start shopping around buying samples and sample packs to get a general idea of types of juices you like, some liquid vendors to look at nationally in the states, get a 510 dripping atomizer and a drip tip for it to test so you are not having to change a tank every couple tests, use the drip atomizer before commiting to a juice to a tank ;)
Mount Baker Vapor - Probably one of the most suggested vendors out there, with a wide selection, just need to let their liquids age a couple weeks once recieved as they do not offer sample packs persay, called steeping, shake and agitate them while they sit to allow everything to blend well, some of the best prices, and very, very fast shipping.
Heather's Heavenly Vapes - Another good vendor, offers sampler packs that are ready to test, then you can opt in to buy full bottles
Alice in Vape Land - Another good gormet vendor like HHV
Backwoods Brew - Offers fewer choices, similar to MBV with a lot of tobaccoish flavors
Johnson Creek - One of the first US juice vendors out there, a lot of tobacco flavors, they also make juices for Blu E-cigs, might check them out if you liked the Blu flavors
Mom and Pops Vapor Shop - This company has a lot to offer in flavors and sampler packs
Ms. T's Bakery - This is another gormet liquid vendor, similar to HHV and AIV

Those are just a few of the many that are out there.

Good luck and welcome to the ECF family =)

Buy an ego twist, a drip tip & an hh357 from avid vaper and some decent juice. That should set u up with something adequate without wasting money and time researching.

Once you have that you will find it satisfying and many vaping veterans would agree.

Then if you dig it and want something more you can look into investing more money after research throughout this forum.

510 refers to the threading on the bottom of the atomizer (atty) and for traditional atties the HH357 is one of the most satisfying flavor and vapor wise. Buy a cheaper Chinese one or one from anywhere else and it won't last nearly as long or provide you with nearly as much satisfaction.

That's my two cents for a beginner & I doubt any would disagree with me.

Now, you can focus your attention on juice.

Good luck.

Also, search around different sites for ego twists if you want and you'll find one anywhere, but the HH357 long barrel atomizer is only sold at avidvaper.com

Everyone's palate is different and there are hundreds of different juice vendors. Nobody has tried every juice from every vendor and what one person loves the next person might hate. Figure out a general type of flavor you are interested in and search the forums or start a thread looking for pointers.

I could fill a trash bag with nearly full bottles of juice I bought and disliked after a few drops and sometimes just opening the cap. I should open shop actually and market it as very very well cured juice.

Anyway, enjoy!

Here's an illustration you might find helpful. It shows the 510/eGo threading that you see referred to in product descriptions. The Vision Spinner (a variable voltage device very similar to an eGo Twist) has the same threading. The examples of juice delivery systems are a little dated (there seems to be a new product coming out every 5 minutes), but the threads are the same.

"eGo" has become a generic name for all batteries of that type, like "Kleenex" is often used to mean all tissues, but JoyeTech is the authentic brand and will have a logo on the bottom. "Vision" is the name brand for the Spinner. While less expensive generic options are available, I recommend getting an authentic device as there seems to be less problems with them.
