Well since I am a noob to these parts, I will post here about my first two weeks vaping.
Hello my name is Stricklin, been smoking about 22 years. Was a pack a day of Marl...err those guys, for a long time. After the tax hacks that happened a few years ago, dived into the RYO world and never looked back.
My journey into PV's started my sisters husband was in town a few weeks ago and puffing on an ecig, just a regular one. (no idea the brand)
This intrigued me so I started doing some reading. Having no idea what I was reading about, I did the impulse buy and order a set of Blu's....
Terrible decision, though at the time, didn't realize it.
They are an ok product, kinda do what is advertised, but what took me a week or two to figure out was I was missing several important things to a smoker. Heat, smoke, and throat hit. (In the process of trying to return it - see how that goes)
After watching a few videos ordered a revolution v2.1. This is actually a pretty good device. I have been told that there are better bottom feed devices, but having to tip over and drip is not really an issue for me. During this time I met the VAPETV folks. They kinda gave me the one up on this device. I see some of the issues with it not feedding without the tip over but don't really see that as an issue. /shrugs.
Hanging with the masses I took in info overload about devices, mods, what to get what not to get.
Was set on buying the Darwin, but did some more reading, and found the silver bullet. It was cheaper, and not quite so confusing, and I can always still get it (still pondering it)
Have had my Black Silver Bullet for a week now, and my my I am actually seriously thinking about dumping the analogs.
I have since ordered 306 attys, have some 501 dual coils on order. My my, this is almost like shopping for computer parts (old tech here)
Have ordered juice from Johnsons Creek, only tried the Original smoke juice, its not bad but its not great.
Got a 6 pack from Pinkspot, tasty stuff.
About 12 from juices from Altsmoke (where I got my silver bullet). Some are pretty good some meh.
Just ordered 10 from Momandpops.(Don't know yet, but I hear great things)
Needless to say just did the math, and im in $599.35. I started on 8/10/11. Its only 8/27/11. Holy #$%$
Do I have issues with this, kinda, but not really. I'm trying to quit smoking, and I knew it was going to be expensive to start this.
I will say, for enyone starting this, do your RESEARCH. RESEARCH. RESEARCH. I would have saved about 300 dollars if I would have waiting and read
and researched before I bought anything. Juice can be overlooked, cause ya gotta have good juice. The 70 or 80 bucks I spent on Blu would have almost payed for my Silver Bullet, and that is just kinda depressing. Expensive lesson learned I suppose.
I will say though that 95% of the PV community is awesome. Watch, read, listen, and learn. Soo much good information there if you just put forth the effort to soak it up. You will be better for it, and won't waste a bunch of money learning it. Learn from others mistakes.

On that note. Hello everyone in the community. ) Soon I will be one of those ex smokers I keep reading about. Getting closer.

A lot of us purchased a beginner unit before we found ECF and paid way too much. They served their purpose though. Sent us on a quest to find one of the units the Vets here recommended and eventually replaced cigarettes for most of us. It sounds like you have the equipment you need to succeed, so, best wishes on your journey.

Welcome to ECF and I will be interested to watch your progress.

Welcome to the forum! At least with the Blu figured out what you liked and didn't like about vaping.

This is why I recommend people getting a good, inexpensive pv like an ego. You're going to be spending sooooo much more money finding a juice you like.

I got very lucky with juice- I'm still vaping the very first juice I tried and still love it. Not that I haven't bought a boat load of juice, mostly weird novelty juices that are OK for 2-3 vapes then make me feel a little nauseous. If you find a juice you half way like, stick with it and learn to tolerate it. When your taste buds change, you'll eventually grow to like it. Sorta like cigs!

Thanks Central and Beckah, I felt at home well before I signed up to be able to post. A great bunch of folks here, that is for sure. Still puffing a few analogs, but every day it gets less and less appealing.

I never started vaping with expectations that I'd quit. Once I started I saw it was a possibility. The longer I vaped, the more I liked it better than cigs. One day- no cigs. Don't put pressure on yourself. You've got a good pv. Once you hit on a good juice, you'll be fine.

Congrats and Welcome Stricklin :)

Yes, it can be expensive in the beginning even if you start with a good kit. The temptation to buy and try all the goodies everyone suggests is difficult to resist. But I'm sure you'll find your favorite vape, ("sweet spot"), and you'll be able to put those analogs in your past before long.

Wishing you the best,
N.

Don't feel bad about that, I started with GreenSmoke before I found this forum. GS was a bad choice, but it did get me off analogs so I won't complain. Haven't had an analog in over a month and don't want one. I do, however, have a plano (fish tackle box) filled with juices & cartos & miscellaneous necessities for my new habit.... I've invested over $300.00, so I'm pretty much breaking even, and once I get my system in place I'll be saving money. Keep coming here, the people here can answer any questions you have. I still have analogs in my desk drawer, and it's not even a temptation. Welcome!

Took me a bit to find my hardware, but found something I am happy with (silver bullet), now its on to the juice search, which I think will be the eternal road of ever searching. I just need something that I can hit when I really feel the urge for a cig. Once I break that habit, the road is going to paved with no tar, and a lot of flavor. Here's to getting off the analogs.

I am down to 1,2, or 3 a day, so i feel I am way ahead of the game, and after smoking as long as i have, I don't feel too bad, but still get bit frustrated with myself. Lack of self control i guess. I have been doing RYO for several years so the price is kinda painful. I was down to under a dollar per pack. Even grew my own two seasons ago. I can see myself doing the DIY thing, just want to get more familiar with things, and to be honest i failed chemistry in HS, and wasn't that good at math in school, so kinda holding off on things for a while.

So much envy for u guys, I have yet to decide & obtain a kit. Hopefully do not need to spend much $$$ trying to find the right ecig

Good luck. Do lots of reading here and you will do fine. Get on here and read as much as you can. It really helps to get your mind right for wanting to vape instead of smoke. I read a lot on here and think it made it really easy for me to drop the smokes after 45 years and 2 1/2 packs a day. I quit the day my ecig arrived.
