Hi all,

New guy here, I stumbled onto this forum via searching the terms "electronic cigarette". I started about an hour ago reading through some of the existing discussions and found this rather insightful. I've been a smoker for nearly 10 years(yes I know I'm 26 now). Trying to quit on and off like most smokers have done.

Anyway, I'm currently using the patch(started about 5 days ago). I've already cheated about 3 cigarettes so far. Perhaps I'm delusional, but I feel it's actually quite a big step forward considering that I used to smoke about a pack a day. Getting through the night and day isn't entirely too difficult but it's when I have the oral fixations that really break me. What's even sadder is that when I do smoke, it tastes horrible. I'm guessing it's a nicotine overload considering the patch still delivers nicotine even when it's removed. I'm considering e-cigarettes mainly because I think I'll manage using a lower nicotine dosage or maybe even none at all.

Rather than making this post too lengthy, I'll just say this here. I've read through some of the threads(obviously not all). I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a company to me for my first purchase. I'm guessing a starter kit is the way to go.

Here's a few things I'm hoping out of the item:

1. Someone close to the length of a regular cigarette.
2. I'm still pretty confused about the liquids stuff, it seems like most people use it to enhance the experience. Is it absolutely necessary? If not, I'd prefer to go without it.
3. An e-cigarette that's reliable, and allows for non-nicotine cartridges(in the event that I overcome this nicotine addiction, which I feel I'm seriously close to doing)
4. Fast shippers; I noticed a few of the companies/suppliers here are either moving, re-structuring(understandable in these economic times) and may take longer to ship the items.

Any help on this would be much appreciated. And to anyone that's read this post in it's entirety, kudos to you. I'll just go about reading more of these insightful discussions.

Welcome to the forum :)
When you go to purchase you're going to not only get the starter kit but also get a couple of spare batteries and atomizers
A lot of people like to start with the 901 or 510 - they're close to the length of a 100 or king cig.
As for the liquid/juice - you are going to need prefilled cartridges or empty cartridges and liquid/juice
Most suppliers offer no nic cartridges and/or liquid
There is a list of suppliers down near the bottom of the forum home page of which most are very reliable. I would have to recommend altsmoke.com first as he is my son :) but I have also used e-smokeytreats and puresmoker and found them to be very reliable aslo. Read through the supplier reviews - remember everyone has their own favorite supplier. Best of luck in your quest to quit!

1. Typiecally the closer it looks like a real cigarette the poorer the performance, at least as reported by many on this forum. One that isn't too much bigger than an analog but has a manual switch and is well supported on this forum is the Dura-C or 510. For an auto switch device I would suggest either a 901 or 401.

2, You can get pre-filled carts but most members find them disappointing. That is why almost everyone buys liquid that we drip into the cartridge. More flavor, more variety and big cost savings.

3. They all allow for non-nicotine liquid.

4. Most suppliers, when in stock, deliver within the states in 2-3 days.

I would watch Spikey's video to learn more:

Thanks for the welcome.

I noticed there hasn't been any reviews on "blucigs.com", a company that I was considering. But thank you for the suggestions as I'll look into them as well. I did notice that there's a link to suppliers on the front page of the forums but some either had no reviews or no input from members.

I seem to vaguely remember a supplier out in Reno, Nevada with an interesting name. Their cigarettes looked remarkably like the real thing, even in length. But they've either gone out of business or renamed themselves. I suppose more research is required. Thanks for your suggestions + explanation. I'll keep looking and when I finally make my decision, I'll go ahead and share a review.

I'm new to this too, unfortunately I bought first and found this place later. Anyway I'm using the Joye 510, it's pretty close to smoking a real cigg. See Joye 510 for more info on this model. It's a little longer than an real cigg, I use the black model, but they come in white which looks more like a real smoke.

The liquid contains flavoring(unflavored, too) plus a dose of nicotine. Zero nicotine juice is available. The cartidges hold the juice, so you will need to buy pre-filled carts or a bottle of juice. Both juice and carts come in different nicotine strenghts and flavors. I'd start with a mid-high(16 - 18mg) to start with. I bought pre-filled carts at first, easier and cheaper, plus I wanted to make sure an e-cigg would work for me before spending money on juice. It has, 10 days smoke free with no nic withdrawal/cravings.

As far as reliabilty, I've only had my e-ciggs kits for a little over two weeks, no problems or failures so far.

There are several vendors in the link above, I've used a few of them(Electronicstix, Smokesafe), all shipped fast, no problems with any of them. You may have to search to find a vendor that has 510's in stock, they are a hot item.

The e-cigg experience was a little over whelming at first, you get all this gear and have no idea how to use it. I kept smoking real ciggs while experimenting with the e-cigg, after a few days I felt comfortable enough to just vapor. Lots of good info and video available here. Give it a try and good luck.

Wow! you guys are real active on this board. I was expecting to return after a few hours for a response but I'm getting replies within' the first 5 minutes!

My previous post was towards, "malyden". Thanking her for her suggestions & explanation.

But I'd also like to thank both "bluetooth bub" & "wv2win" for their replies.

@wv2win:
That's a very good explanation as to why I see a majority of the e-cigarettes to be somewhat longer in length than I had hoped. Going with something longer is okay as long as the product is consistent, so I suppose I could broaden my scope of product interest.

And I'll be sure to watch the video you linked me to. Thanks for that as well as your explanations.

@bluetooth bub:
It's funny you mentioned dietSMOKES.com, I just got finished watching their review of the the "M401 Red Edition" and I'm fairly compelled to get it.

@Anonomo:

Thanks for sharing your personal experiences with the Joye510, I'll have to read more about it to make a decision. It's sort of overwhelming to have all these choices(which is a good thing), but making a decision is the tough part I suppose. Looks like I'll have to do some more reading.

Thanks @ everyone for sharing their experience and knowledge. Really glad I signed up here. Hoping that my first vapor experience will be good one.

Glad we could help. If you REALLY are more interested in consistent, long term performance instead of looks, then you should consider the Screwdriver or the new Prodigy by puresmoker (out the end of this week) Instead of having to change batteries every 2-3 hours, these two last for 8 hours. Instead of inconsistent throat hit, these two hit every time. (I think the 510/Dura-C, being manual PV's also have good throat hit, but the batteries do not last as long).

@wv2win:

I guess everything has a balance to it. In terms of consistency the looks get compromised. The "Screwdriver" & the "Prodigy" look remarkably similar in terms of shape, but I don't know if I'm such a diehard smoker that I'd need something like that. I'm not saying it looks ugly, just that it looks a long ways from what a traditional analog would look like. Regardless, thanks for bringing it to my attention. I noticed a few people mentioning the "screwdriver" and was kind of lost in the terminology. It sounded as it it was a modded e-cigarette.

At this point in time, I'm leaning more towards the M510 model, and perhaps sometime down the road I may get another model to experiment with.

You'll find that most new ecig users want to go for the real cig look at first but usually they change their mind as they get accustom to the ecig.

my sentiments exactly, except I'm hoping that I won't "change my mind" sometime later down the road. hopefully I'll transition from low nico to none and be done with cigarettes all together. At this point, I can sort of see myself more of a social smoker considering that most of the friends I've amassed are/were all smokers to some degree.

Hey there,
Just my two cents here:

I feel your sentiment about WV's suggestion to look into the screwdriver and prodigy. I too feel they look a bit odd, as well as a sure way to get yourself pulled over by the police if your seen using one in your car. Thus, I sought an e-cig that looked like an analog. So enter the Vapor King, or the Nebula, or the Choice Fusion.
All are simple two piece design, disposable cartridges (can be refilled very easily with any liquid to save more money).
Great price, batteries are reliable, and throat hit is awsome. The draw off of these is the closest I've come to an actual cigarette.
Any questions, PM me or ask away right here!
My best,
-VP

1. Typiecally the closer it looks like a real cigarette the poorer the performance, at least as reported by many on this forum.

Thats weird... The Vapor King cant stay in stock for more than 5 minutes. I see more and more people reporting that this e-cig (that closely resembles an analog) to be very reliable? As well as my own personal experience with it.

For an auto switch device I would suggest...

Sorry WV to keep picking on you, but do you see what I mean? Where did the OP ask about auto switches????? (so who's injecting thier own opinion, while disregarding the question?)

2, You can get pre-filled carts but most members find them disappointing. That is why almost everyone buys liquid that we drip into the cartridge. More flavor, more variety and big cost savings.

Again, the plethora of VK users do NOT find this disappointing, we find it par for the course with 2piece e-cigs, and WELL worth it for the Vapor King. I am dripping all kinds of juice into mine and loving it. They may not last as long, but then again, Im not worring about an atty busting on me while Im in my car:)

My best,
-VP

Thanks VP for the insight.

I wasn't all that concerned about being pulled over by the cops for using something that does actually resemble drug paraphernalia but you made a very good point. Something that I hadn't initially considered. I guess it didn't even occur to me at first.

Anyway, I just placed an order with dietsmokes.com(for the M510 Red Starter Kit) and went with the priority shipping so hopefully it'll arrive sooner rather than later.

I hope you don't take any offense VP or wv3win to the comments made here, I'm merely a newbie trying to get an idea of how this vaping stuff works. I welcome any suggestions and certainly considered them. I guess all in all, I had to make my own decisions eventually good or bad. I'll be finding out shortly.

Again, thank you all for your suggestions and I appreciate all the knowledge shared here.

One minor question though, and it looks like no one has had any experience with them as of yet. The company "blucigs.com" seems to be offering shorter length e-cigs(pretty close to analog style) for relatively low costs.

From past experiences(obviously with other items, not e-cigs), the old adage "You get what you pay for" comes to mind. I'm wondering if anyone's done business with them? And whether or not their worth a try.

But since I've already put my purchase order through, perhaps this is a discussion for a later date.

No offense taken by me at all. WV and I have an ongoing debate, thats all. He just feels it neccessary to try and sway people who are looking for anolog looking e-cigs towards e-cigs with battery packs, car parts, and manual switches. (Not really car parts, just kidding. but they arent pretty) but then will say that it is I who dont take anyone elses opinion into account.. but onward:

He is right that battery life can be compromised by smaller e-cig looking PV's.
I cannot speak to the vender you are asking about, but your addage will hold true to e-cigs. On the same hand, dont pay $160.00 for a product you can easily get for $69.95.
keep asking questions on here, and listen to what people are telling you, so long as you trust them. And to WV's defense, he knows what he's talking about with regards to mods and the likes, should you ever decide to go that route.
My very best,
-VP

blucigs.com looks amazing. I have never heard of them, but having the cig come in the charger case, providing 25 cartridges that you can mix and match, offering free shipping, a 30 day return policy, five day guaranteed shipping, etc. make this site really intriguing. Has anyone heard of this company? I really wish I had some money to spend.
