Hi guys, just got the griffin tank in and it's great!! First I tried a build on the tfv4 dual coil deck running 8 wraps dual coil 24 gauge kanthal wire 2.5 diameter took around 12 puffs no flavor. Using bacon cotton. Then I did the same build on the griffin and wow what a difference finally something that beats the crown in flavor lol. All I vaped before were pre made coil tanks. Tfv4, cleito which I wasn't crazy about. So typically RTA tanks give off better flavor? Does canthal wires make that much of a difference? Also what changes with diameter? The larger the more surface area the more flavor? Also dual coils are better for taste correct? More surface area more cotton=more flavor? I'm definitely a flavor chaser any tips on different builds for optimum flavor on the griffin would be greatly appreciated. Also is it necessary to change the cotton if you change flavors in a RBA coil? Also I feel like I had better flavor right off the bat with my first tank on the griffin still getting good flavor but not as good as the first tank the coils is a .32 keeping it between 3.8-4.8 volts. Thanks

Glad you're enjoying the Griffin, its a solid RTA.

Flavor and vapor production have quite a few variables to make either or both more pronounced. Here are some of my observations after toying with around 20 something RTAs.

The more mass you're heating up the more power is needed and in turn the bigger the cloudz get (not necessarily better flavor).

The lesser the area your vapor needs to travel from the point of vaporization to your tongue the better the flavor. This is why you see these non-post decks or RTAs with short chimneys, or genie style attys (atomizers with coils sitting on top of the liquid) producing better flavor.

Dual coils and single coil flavor is debatable IMHO. Yes while it is true 2 coils vaporizing your ejuice in theory should produce more vapor and thus better flavor, you also have to consider that with a dual coil setup the vapor usually needs to travel through more "area" (ie: non-flavored air) before it reaches your taste buds. Single coil decks are usually smaller, have lesser airflow, have a blocker in a dual coil setup, etc.

So for me its more of a balancing act. Assuming that the vapor travels through the same amount of non-flavored air from point of vaporization to your tongue, then yes a dual coil should produce better flavor than a single coil.

There are also other variables to consider such as drip tip diameter (I find narrower ones to produce better flavor), airflow (I find lesser airflow to produce more pronounced flavor), chimney diameter (thinner the better for me at least), etc etc.

It takes alot of tinkering to really get the vape you want and even then you will never be not hunting for a better vape (there I just did a double negative). :)

@rice721 thanks for the reply! I guess no better way to find out other then trial and error. What you're saying makes perfect logic! Since you definitely seem well versed in this domain, here are a couple life questions if I may;) I was told that you really shouldn't pay attention to your watts but more so your volts? Keeping the between 3.8-4.2-4.8 being maximum? Also when I built my first coil at the store immediately I got great flavor ran a few tanks through it and it kinda became dull. I cleaned the coils there's no black gunk on them they are nice and blueish in color. Firing from the middle outwards. I rewicked it I was told to stuff the cotton down the juice channels all the way. And now that I rewicked it's making a sound after I take my finger of the fire button like a suction sound it wasn't making that noise on the previous tank only when I rewicked. What's that noise being caused by? Not enough cotton? And my last question (sorry) I was told that on rta you couldn't really chain vape like a pre build coil? Take 4-5 puffs wait a minute then Vap again... Thanks :)

1. Not sure about your v or w question but if you work the math aren't they regulating the same thing? How much power you're pumping into ur coils.

2. Could be vapers tongue. Your taste buds have gotten used to that flavor. Drink plenty of water and try changing to a diff tank with a diff flavor.

3. When I wick the griffin I don't stuff the cotton down into the juice flow slots bc I don't want to choke my wick. I have it sit in the ring (one on the build deck) protruding down just a tad.

4. Hissing sound could be the residual heat on the coils vaporizing the liquid.

5. Not true. Depends on how well u wicked, how open the juice flow control is if u have one, and the nature of the rta. Some rtAs if wicked properly I can chain Vape till I feel sick or the battery dies.

The griffin IMO if wicked as I mentioned is one of the tanks that you can really chain vape all day. Its got enough airflow esp with the top AFC piece to keep your coils / tank cool enough.

@rice721 1) with The .31 I'm between 40-55 watts 2) I've vaped some flavors all day before and never had vapors tongue. I'll try that out thanks. 3)I keep hearing that but the first build at my shop the guy watched me build my coil and advised to actually stuff the cotton down the juice channels and that's the tank where I got immediate flavor! But you're right everyone I see is saying not to stuff it down the juice channels. I just rewicked earlier and had the cotton just Beliw the groove of the ring on the tank. Made shure it wasn't stuffed either. 4) what would cause one tank to make a hissing noise compared to no hissing noise? Not enough cotton?5)good to hear I like chain vaping ;)

@rice721 do you change cotton when you change flavor?

Depends.

If I'm lazy and they're of the same flavor type: Fruity and Fruity then I don't. But if its from a deserty/milky to fruity then I do.

When i do change the wick I also take the chance to clean the tank fully and dry burn the coils to remove gunk. You should only dry burn Kanthal & Stainless Steel (ni200 you def can't, not sure about Ti).

I'm not sure what would cause a tank to have hissing noise, which I assume is residual heat (after releasing fire button) vaporizing liquid in the wick. I would assume its due to a thicker wire build since they tend dissipate heat slower than thinner wires.

I only have 2 tanks with me. The Aromamizer Supreme and the Billow V3.

The Billow V3 hisses more than the supreme. I have 24 gauge kanthal wires in the Billow and 26/32 kanthal clapton in the Supreme.

@rice721 thanks again appreciate all the help seriously. ;). Can you dry fire Clapton as well to clean the gunk?

Welcome. As long as the wire material is made of kanthal or SS you can dry fire them so yes, I dry burn my kanthal claptons. I know with nickel for sure you cannot. Not so sure about Ti or Nichrome.
