Hi guys, just got the griffin tank in and it's great!! First I tried a build on the tfv4 dual coil deck running 8 wraps dual coil 24 gauge kanthal wire 2.5 diameter took around 12 puffs no flavor. Using bacon cotton. Then I did the same build on the griffin and wow what a difference finally something that beats the crown in flavor lol. All I vaped before were pre made coil tanks. Tfv4, cleito which I wasn't crazy about. So typically RTA tanks give off better flavor? Does canthal wires make that much of a difference? Also what changes with diameter? The larger the more surface area the more flavor? Also dual coils are better for taste correct? More surface area more cotton=more flavor? I'm definitely a flavor chaser any tips on different builds for optimum flavor on the griffin would be greatly appreciated. Also is it necessary to change the cotton if you change flavors in a RBA coil? Also I feel like I had better flavor right off the bat with my first tank on the griffin still getting good flavor but not as good as the first tank the coils is a .32 keeping it between 3.8-4.8 volts. Thanks
Glad you're enjoying the Griffin, its a solid RTA.
Flavor and vapor production have quite a few variables to make either or both more pronounced. Here are some of my observations after toying with around 20 something RTAs.
The more mass you're heating up the more power is needed and in turn the bigger the cloudz get (not necessarily better flavor).
The lesser the area your vapor needs to travel from the point of vaporization to your tongue the better the flavor. This is why you see these non-post decks or RTAs with short chimneys, or genie style attys (atomizers with coils sitting on top of the liquid) producing better flavor.
Dual coils and single coil flavor is debatable IMHO. Yes while it is true 2 coils vaporizing your ejuice in theory should produce more vapor and thus better flavor, you also have to consider that with a dual coil setup the vapor usually needs to travel through more "area" (ie: non-flavored air) before it reaches your taste buds. Single coil decks are usually smaller, have lesser airflow, have a blocker in a dual coil setup, etc.
So for me its more of a balancing act. Assuming that the vapor travels through the same amount of non-flavored air from point of vaporization to your tongue, then yes a dual coil should produce better flavor than a single coil.
There are also other variables to consider such as drip tip diameter (I find narrower ones to produce better flavor), airflow (I find lesser airflow to produce more pronounced flavor), chimney diameter (thinner the better for me at least), etc etc.
It takes alot of tinkering to really get the vape you want and even then you will never be not hunting for a better vape (there I just did a double negative).
