Firstly I must thank each and everyone who responded to my post/rant
Apologies as I may have come across as a desperate unhinged individual who just needed to vape after quitting smoking! Some lessons have been learned and advice duly considered and taken.
After my initial purchase and refund, and discussions with jhelliwell we short listed the SVD now initially given I live on a boat I wanted something that worked and was reliable there are a lot of considerations in boating life some only become apparent in reality. Some of the things I took for granted in a bricks and mortar environment simply aren't workable or practical in a floating & moving vessel
I did here mentioned a lot about the MVP and even considered it over the SVD I guess the lure of its looks and fairly good reviews won me over.
In my desperation I ordered another SVD yesterday but recently I have been living an eBay nightmare with sellers which I won't dwell on I've had my rant fill for a while. Seller stated they were in stock, but they weren't and a message arrived saying it will be so many days no good for me considering my current edgy nervousness. Rather than dwell in my current frustrations and scan reading due to limited time the posts here I worked it out with the seller and stating they had the MVP in stock all being well it should be sent out today for delivery tomorrow.
As mentioned by jhelliwell and coming from an electronics background I fault found the SVD by design it's precarious and as is so evidently apparent in alot of modern day far eastern products made at the lowest unit cost possible. The 2 (I'm sure there are more!) glaring weaknesses I have found in the SVD are the 0.01p centre pin insulator this may be easily modified I am not sure if the centre pin is sprung or is merely relying on the springiness of the rubber/silicon insulator/washer this could dislodge or breakdown at any time causing a short and the dreaded 0.0A to be displayed on the SVD. The tactile trigger switch is I am sure a constant discussion amongst designers and in reality is designed to fail it's the luck of the draw as to the MTFB for a 0.5p switch this time round it was failing after 4 weeks, currently there is no tactile feedback and the tiniest of travel it works but for how long?, not long from previous experience with these type of mechanisms.
I can see no way to repair it by its very design and would really like to rebuild it as a home mod in a box not unlike a MVP. If anyone knows of any way to take a SVD apart without destroying it I would be more than grateful.
With regards to the KFL discussion I have truly tried for weeks and weeks to get a clone false chinese promises, UK eBay sellers that are dishonest and sellers who say they were in stock when ordered and paid for which simply just don't turn up. FT have currently been by far the most reliable seller which may be hard for some to believe.
The GG Ithaka clone is my very first RBA coming from the Kanger PT's and Innokin iClears it's a different universe and I really do like it for all it's quirks and on my part user error. I look forward to the KFL clones, Taifun GT and the RH Hercules I have on order & given my very limited coiling experience and the environment I live in the Ithaka has been heaven sent with any old silica, eko and coil.
I am committed to what will be at times the steep vaping learning curve but as jhelliwell said 'I have seen the light' and there is no going back now!
Once again cheers to everyone and there advice and suggestions ECF is a real golden nugget to the vaping community.
Vape on! vaping is for life!
